We stayed here one night during our trip to Cuba in '08, and since there wasn't any reviews of this hotel, we decided to share our experience.
First of all, there's nothing 'gran' about this hotel, except for the facade. Rooms are quite cheap, but you really get, what you pay for - not much. Oh, well, at least you get the authentic feeling of Santiago by night...but more about that later.
The hotel is located conveniently in the city center. Although rooms are dated, they are of acceptable size and very clean. There are showers in rooms, but at least we ran out of water during our stay. There's also a small tv in the room. Everything was just nice...until we tried to get some sleep.
Air conditioning is essential in Santiago. Unfortunately the device in our room kept such a terrible noise that we couldn't sleep with it on. After switching it off, it turned out that we couldn't sleep with it off either: the noise from the street came straight through the shutters to room. And we're not talking about some occasional shouts or hums, but continuous, loud noise coming from the people and the mopeds going back and forth on the street just below our window.
We didn't get much sleep, but hey, that's Cuba...
