“Decent stay, nice area”

Was booked to stay here by a tour for two nights and after reading the reviews was very concerned. But I found it to be a decent place. The front desk staff were friendly. At dinner we asked for some extra things and the staff was more than accommodating. The room was basic but clean. Don't remember if there was a safe and didn't use. The pool area was decent as well. It was centrally located and I felt safe enough to go for a jog everyday. Its not a 5 star hotel but I don't see what the negative reviews were about. I had a nice stay.

“Unsafe hotel, very rude staff in breakfast area”

Ignoring previous reviews and out of desperation we decided to stay three nights at this hotel. Big mistake. Got hustled outside and thought we would be safe inside but the hustler followed us in and shook hands with the receptionist !!
What details are they sharing with outsiders!!?
Breakfast staff are seriously rude. The room was clean but didn't feel safe at all.
Glad to get out of there.
Oh well, at least you have been warned.

“Pleasant stay, nice area.”

We stopped for a night either side of a trip to Baracoa and it was nice split this way. The hotel has a good breakfast with lots to choose from the buffet and fresh omelettes. There are also some restaurants nearby- Bucaneros was the best. Its in an nice and safe location away from the centre but only a 30 minute walk or quick taxi ride. There was an open air music concert on when we were there which was fun! Also teh hotel staff have entertainment around the pool which is a nice break from the heat though is small. The rooms are spotless with first class bathrooms, showers and hot water. after many issues travelling in Cuba this bathroom was heavenly! Easy to arrange trips to nearby San Juan hill.

“Awful, dangerous, badly run hotel. Be very careful.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

I agree with two previous reviews completely. This hotel is badly run and is not safe.
There is definitely an unhealthy relationship between some of the hotel staff and the numerous hustlers prowling the area.
There is also a breakfast waiter/chef (thin one with shaved head) who is extremely unpleasant toward hotel guests. On my last morning there I noticed he had a group of 'female friends' visit him after a busy 'night shift' and they helped themselves to the buffet which is why he probably works there.
Doubt the manager or customer relations department (yes, they really have one) have what it takes to sort this debacle of a hotel out.
Steer clear !!!
