“There are so many nicer places in better locations”

Albeit but not with the rich history of the Nacional. I stayed for a week and put up with rude surly people. I also met many nice and helpful people so I am not sure why the nastier ones don't or can't adapt to a customer service environment like some I experienced had. It is economical to stay there but adds up as you spend any time there. The garden is one of the loveliest spots in Havana to meet friends. However hotels close to Habana Vieja are much more economical, more ideally located and, with character and welcoming staffs. I recommend you stay elsewhere and visit the Nacional for a cocktail to experience it. Very average!

Room Tip: on the 5th or 6th floor close to the position of the business center so you can get the internet in...

I was incredibly lucky to get to stay here over New Years with 3 friends in the fabulous Spencer Tracy suite - both bedrooms have ocean views. Nacional is part luxury hotel, part time machine. You get the benefit of both a lovey and relaxed stay and a historic experience - if you have any interest in history you should do the free tour the hotel runs daily, they even take you through their bomb shelter from the CMC days. Following that, head for the Winston Churchill bar for the best daiquiris and bar stories in Cuba.

“Havana Landmark”

Front desk service isn't so hot, and some of the room fixtures are a bit dated, but the hotel teems with history (don't miss the free guided historical tour of the hotel given a couple of times a day--check with the concierge--part of it is the underground bunker built under the gardens during the missle crisis that you'd never otherwise even know about). The rooms are large and comfortable and housekeeping is excellent. The buffet restaurant has outstanding breakfasts, except that the coffee is awful (ironically, for a country that exports coffee, it was also terrible in the restaurant in the Brisas Del Mar in Trinidad). A tip: don't use the urn or machine for coffee, make sure you find the server for the espresso station at the back of the dining room (sometimes he wanders) and ask for a double--that's good coffee. I'd definitely stay here again.

“Comforts of today with close to 80 years of history”

Hotel exceeded all expectations; none of problems noted by others. Room, bed, linens fresh and clean, no rising damp. Bathroom was huge with every convenience: toiletries, hair dryer, magnifying mirror, scale, plenty of hot water. Only wish deep tub had a grab bar. Had one risky try and then had to stick w just shower. One problem was that the a/c was so loud! Food, in general, was overpriced and just so so. Key to come w room price breakfast is the self serve toaster. Lobby and grounds great. I recommend the free one hour tour at 10 and 4. I stayed on 7th floor.

I went to Cuba last year and I'm going again in Sept 2012. tI upsets me how many comments of the staff are "rude".... The Cubans are not allowed to talk to tourists....it's a law! Perhaps you should understand the culture and rules before going off on the staff. We had ddrinks at this Hotel and in Sept I am looking forward to staying here! ANd it was one of the best dinners we had!
