After our daughter visited Barbados in November of 2010, and stayed at 55 Hibiscus and had a wonderful time, we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The great value for this apartment made it possible for us to enjoy many other activities and excursions during our nine day stay. The owner, Mata, is welcoming, warm and extremely helpful. She answered all our inquiries beforehand via email and set us up with a driver for our journey to and from the airport. She made dinner reservations for us at The Tides, as well as a catamaran cruise where we snorkeled with the turtles. She arranged for the same driver, Ernest, to take us on a four hour tour of the island. As if this was not enough, she invited us into her home where we spent a very pleasant evening with her son and one other guest-we drank and snacked while conversing about all manner of things. The apartment comes with a pass to a pool right along the beach which is a short walk away. We would definitely return to this location. It would be like visiting old friends.

We stayed a week in a one-bedroom apartment at the Hibiscus Apartments and we were very happy with our choice. The apartment was very clean and confortable within a few-minute walking distance to the center of Holetown and the beach. We enjoyed our private and well-maintained tropical garden with beautiful flowers, birds and whistling frogs. The place offered lots of privacy which we appreciated, but still our landlady, Mata, was nearby whenever we needed anything. We also enjoyed the kitchen which included all that you need for cooking your meals. But if you prefer eating out, there are plenty of restaurants in the Holetown area.

We had some doubts about renting a private accommodation, because sending a rent deposit to a person who you don’t know seemed like a stupid thing to do, but we decided to take the risk and it was definitely worth it! Our landlady turned out to be the most caring, friendly and reliable person. She took very good care of us during our stay – provided important information and tips, and arranged transportation. She also arranged an island tour with Ernest, which turned out to be the highlight of our short stay in Barbados.

During our trip we met some of the friendliest people we have ever met anywhere in the world. We recommend the island to everyone! And whenever we’ll have a chance to go back to Barbados, we’ll definitely stay at Hibiscus Apartments.

This was our second time staying in the one bedroom aprartment at 55 Hibiscus Avenue. The owners, Mata and Bedo Persaud are charming and delightfully sociable as they often invited us to share drinks on their patio. Always eager to help and to provide travel tips for tourists, we soon felt as though we were long time residents. We felt so comfortable and relaxed -almost one of the family . Mata's front garden is a beautiful, tropical wonderland and Hibiscus Avenue is a guiet residential street with ancient trees and flowering vines.
A short walk up hill leads to the wealthy Sandy Hill area, while a short walk in the opposite direction leads to a twenty-four hour medical center; a well-stocked fruit stand; and, of course, the beautiful beach and beach house. This beach house that is available to all Sunset Crest residents is a terrific place to spend the day, and we were lucky enough to be there for a wonderful Valentines supper which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Great walks along the beach at low tide and easy snorkeling right off the shore.
Mata is happy to arrange tours with a very knowlegable and reliable driver named Ernest who will take you to many interesting places around the island. Of course, there is always the bus and we enjoyed taking it one day for an outing to the other side of the island.
We would highly recommend staying at 55 Hibiscus Ave. As we write this review we are trying to plan when we could return and how we could stay for a longer period of time.

During 2006 Spring Break, our family travelled to Barbados (2 adults and a 14 year old boy). We spent 7 wonderful days at the Hibiscus Apt. in St. James. It was very comfortable, clean and affordable accomodations. Having our own little piece of paradise, a yard to lounge in, a one bedroom apt. to come home to and enjoy, was fantastic. Our hosts could not have made us feel more welcome.
