we have just got back from a week at DB,well sad to say apart from a lot of blue paint it aint changed!!! we went because we were meeting friends who had booked this hotel,we had stayed here 4 years ago and the price was alot cheaper then so we went with the flo....you get what you paid for,we booked a sea front room this time which is fine clean patio doors are so past it it took 2 of us to pull it open they dont lock they just have a bar thing to click in place!! lovely sea view only when standing,as we were on the ground floor, when sitting on rickety old chairs you look at a wall with rusty chicken wire below its holding the bricks together, the path along the front only needs to have some shingle or grass and it would look ten times better.
well what can i say about the food!!!!! breakfast is probably the best i think we ate 2 times for dinner!!! and lunch was terrible fish same pasta same meat well what ever it was same again if you like burgers then your ok but you expect alittle bit more for your dollar!!.we ate out most nights with our friends as they couldnt eat any thing apart from breakfast, what amazes me is the restaurant was full???? its like well iv paid for it i will eat it,we ate at the sandpiper next door a few times as the food is top notch.
what i think and i did those 4 years back the hotel could be quite wonderfull if the management got there act together,ok new paint very blue in the lobby they even had new white paint on the bricks in the bar!!!! new decking was nice but step down from the decking your on old tiles that are smashed and even dug up!! that could have been done in a day!!! not enough staff hardly saw any maintinence people at all go next door staff all over the place.they have got this new pergola thing near the beach which would make a great beach bar day and night, but nothing in it just a few random chairs!!!!!this would make a great place at night,a few flame torches like they have at the other hotels each side of discovery bay,but no the only where to drink is in the lobby bar, with one bar staff.oh and if you dont get up at 6.30 am you dont get a sunbed on the beach!!! yes this is no word of a lie,my husband did it in the end put he towels on the beds then went back to bed like every one else!!!
we stayed in sunswept the last few years but it was full!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so we thought DB would be much better as the price is much higher than before, but we were wrong.[check the web you can always get a room at DB!!!!
the staff as few as they are are lovely and helpful,we tipped them, we feel its a shame as not many people do.
we travel all over the world and have stayed in 5* to pensions so i think we know a bit about hotels, believe me this place could be wonderful so please Rex owners get it sorted.
Room Tip: beach front on a higher level not ground floor
