“Warning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We have just come back from 10 days at the Coral Reef. Cannot fault the hotel but newcomers must be warned that there is an 87% take up of previous clients. Therefore if you are one of the 13% as we were life can be rather strange. Front of house were often rude and unhelpful. If you don't know the system no one tells you to reserve a table at night. The reserving of chairs at the pool and on the beach was unbelievable. Think people came down at night. There are no televisions in the rooms, apart from the villas.
The food was excellent, but we would have been more happy to stay at the Sandpiper. This is definitely worth going to.
I dont think I would recommend this to friends, which is a shame.

Room Tip: Cannot reserve rooms as they seem to have already been taken by previous clients

“Strange”

We had high expectations of this Hotel from the reviews on this site. We were looking forward to a relaxing sunshine break in January. The Property is beautiful & the Room up to scratch but no TV (must have missed that one on the brochure). However, the food is average and having to book tables every day is tedious. There was no introduction from the front desk and we were treated like children by the restaurant staff when we made some minor mistakes in procedure. The carers are evidently in charge here. Our experience eating at the sister hotel and other restaurants was diametrically opposite to that of the Coral Reef. What the brochure also doesn't tell you is that table reservations are required for breakfast - give me a break. Oh, and the policy of not reserving of sunbeds is not enforced. The Poolside beds were full by 6.30am. You also require ballroom dancing lessons to join in the night time fun. We took the manager aside to complain and he effectively shrugged his shoulders. Rent a villa is our recommendation.

“The top hotel on Barbados”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I know Barbados well and have visited it many times during the past many years.
Many would agree that Coral Reef Club is head and shoulders above the other hotels with spacious accommodation set out in private villas through well landscaped gardens. The staff is made up of employees who have served at the hotel for many years and the O'Hara family have made it a point of pride to maintain a high standard of training and service delivery. This is matched by an excellent kitchen and an outstanding cuisine.
I will return again.

Room Tip: The garden villas are lovely and many have small pools. The Plantation Suites are to die for!

“Delightful!!!!”

This was our second trip to The Coral Reef Club and will not be our last. It truly was heaven. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were looked after by attentive friendly staff. Our room was delightful ( and one of the cheapest),enormous and very well equipped
I agree that the best tables in the restaurant are allocated to frequent guests but in defence of the practice I feel it makes you feel like a person and not just a number. On our 3rd night we were offered a table at the front!
We were always greeted by our names and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The O'Hara family have got it right ...it feels like home
Ps
Also very good for celebrity spotting

“Some v positive bits some v negative bits”

Stayed here for 5 days at beginning of jan. Stayed in a luxury suite - 1 bed, lounge and terrace with plunge pool. Room was decent standard/size/clean. Service was very mixed - front desk and bar great and restaurant at nite very good - restaurant at lunch was awful. It was a debate every day over which table you could sit at, they bizarrely reserved all the best tables for mystery guests that never showed up ---- when we tried to reserve we were just told no need! The beach is non existent - a tiny strip that has all the beds in the small bit that gets sun, reserved from 7am. The pool is fine but no service there. the spa is lovely, one of the better hotel spas. Treatments good quality and some very professional staff. Dinner is dullsville except the thurs BBQ which us incredibly high quality and has a great atmosphere. Other nites food is avg but there seems no atmosphere ..... Only those too old to go out or who have pre- paid seem to stay. Overall a decent hotel but some small changes to staff could make avreal improvement
