Just returned from a amazing trip to Bermuda. The Oxford House is comfortable (rooms are simple ((no frills)) but nice and cool), convinent (the location cannot be beat), and very affordable. However, the owener/staff are not extrememly helpful or polite. The staff warms up, once you stop asking questions. On the plus side, the hotel allowed us to spend a lot more monies at wonderful restaurants (Newport Room, Waterloo House, Fresco's) and allowed us great access to Hamilton.

“Oxford Ladies delightful”

We enjoyed everything about our stay at the Oxford House. We were treated with courtesy by Felicidad and the rest of the friendly, hardworking staff. Requested beach towels were cheerfully fetched. The owner, while not warm and fuzzy, is very businesslike and polite. Our room was clean and we thought the bed was very comfortable. The air-conditioning was excellent-quick and quiet. Breakfast was good-could be improved with some fresh fruit or yogurt, perhaps. The central location was great to explore Hamilton or beyond. The bus or ferry are both less than a 10 minute walk from the Oxford House. We will return.

“Average Stay”

While the rooms were perfectly nice at the Oxford House and the breakfasts were ample and tasty, I would have to agree with other reviewers who found the staff and the owner unpleasant at times. We stayed for about a week and by the end of our stay, I was doing my best to avoid interactions with the management and staff. My husband and I stay at a lot of small inns and hotels in the States, and it just seemed to us that requests that would be met cheerfully and enthusiastically in the States (such as asking for extra towels or a set of wineglasses) were met by the Oxford House staff with annoyance. I think the place would be fine for business travelers looking for a no-frills place to stay, but I would recommend that travelers who are looking for a romantic spot with solid service look elsewhere in Bermuda.

“Nice room, shame about the owner”

Stayed here for three weeks on business. The staff were very helpful, but the owner was certainly not. I have read some glowing reports of Mrs. Smith online, but in person she was condescending, rude and unhelpful. I try to be courteous at all times to staff, but I think anyone under a certain age gets short shrift from Mrs. Smith. The room was fine, but the bed was uncomfortable and I slept poorly here for the entire duration of my stay. The attitude of the owner made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable and I could not recommend this guest house. Bermuda is a beautiful country and its people are warm, welcoming and friendly. Mrs. Smith is not Bermudian.

“a welcome home from home”

this guest house is ideally located for both the business travellor for its close proximity to Hamilton as well as value for money for the person on vacation as it is close to all the ferries as well as the bus terminals to all over the island and a scooter rental 4 doors away pefect location to front street and night life close enough but not too close to be disturbed in a quiet area i was here 5 years ago and had a good stay which is why i cam back only this time my room had been extensivly refurbised with broadband in your room as well as wireless conection in all common areas at a reasonable 10 US Dollars an hour and with the cost of hotels in Bermuda makes this value for moeny, and is a family run guest house with a good selection for breakfast, most attractions close during their winter time, however the tourist office are keen to keep everyone entertained with freequent tours free, and the ferry and bussies cheap and as i mentioned right on your doorsteo only 100 yards away
