This was a return to the Hotel from 2007 and was now a big disappointment. The one night stay was enough and I was glad to get out of the place. The state of the Reception and Bar area was poor in 2007 but now they are disgraceful - not only tatty, but filthy. The Restaurant area tables and seating together with service were fine but the decor was tired, scruffy and unclean. The breakfast food was fine apart from a lack of choice of cereals, but again the ancillary items were disgusting. The menu card was dirty and greasy and the toaster, with which you did your own toast, was absolutely filthy.
For the evening meal, we were called back from entering directly into the Restaurant and had to endure the bar area for 20 minutes. We sat next to the entry into the kitchen and that door was absolutely disgusting. For the meal, the starters on offer were poor but the main course range was adequate and meals were acceptable. We both ordered pancakes with summer fruits as a sweet but these were disgusting. The pancakes were micro-waved from the Supermarket and the ‘summer fruits’ was actually JAM.
The room was with a sea view was clean and adequate but everywhere you could see the signs of DIY in the quality of work that had been carried out. Cheap fittings in the bathroom, paint on the door handles, unfinished seals around the bath, poor grouting, fittings not square, etc. Big problem was the definite smell of sewage within the recessed cupboard and the fact that the shower, being a mixer tap above the bath, was useless.

We are really horrified with this review which in no way represents all the other reviews posted on Trip Advisor or in our comments book .
We are a family run business -and have been running successfully for 20 years with many guests returning year on year.
The comments re cleanliness are particularly unfair as we take pride in our standards and had been newly awarded 4 star Restaurant with Rooms status shortly before this guest stayed with us . (To achieve this award, rooms and fixtures and fittings had to be of a very high standard)
. Reviews in our comments book the same week reflect every other guests satisfaction. .
Our restaurant is famous for the quality and variety of the meals we offer and we cook everything to order using fresh local produce in season -so the comments re food are also very unfair.
As at no time did these guests voice any sort of dissatisfaction to any member of staff We can only assume that there was an ulterior motive in posting this review .
