Spent one week Jan 29 - Feb 5th at the Grand Pineapple Resort. This was our first trip to the island of Antigua. The island is very lush and beautiful. Grand Pineapple Resort is very quaint and quite nice. Our room was located on the hill so it was a bit of a walk BUT we didn't mind the exercise. The food at this resort is top notch.
Omellettes at breakfast were great. Say hi to the Omellete lady Winsome, she was very friendly and very accommodating. No shortage of bacon on this resort. Always fresh fruit daily - watermellon, pineapple, daily with a choice of other fresh fruits like bananas, oranges, passion fruit, coconut, apples.
Lunch is buffet and the fish was amazing every day. Supper is buffet twice a week and menu the other nites. Never had any issue with the food and quality, was always delicious and cooked to perfection.
We made reservations at the Pineapple Grille one evening. We were not disappointed with the food or the staff at this restaurant. It was my sister in law and brother in law's 25th anniversary and the staff went out of their way to make it a memorable evening.
Rooms are wicker and very clean. Beds were very comfortable. Air conditioning worked great.
Nightly entertainment down at the main bar from 7-9 every evening. Bands were very good and had nice dance music. There is a disco that operates from 11 pm until whenever, we never did make it to the disco. Age group of 35 and up. Resort seemed to cater to an older age group.
Beach is beautiful, not rocky at all. Walked the beach daily. All beaches in Antigua are public beaches but we never had a problem with vendors bothering us. Vendors walked the beach but didn't hassle you to buy.
Next to the resort is a Vendors market approximately 8 small wooden buildings where the locals sell their goods. We visited this market twice and we were never hassled to buy.
This resort is a smaller resort but the grounds are very mature and beautiful.
The staff are truly dedicated workers and very friendly. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy with the service.
Internet is $7.00 for 1/2 hr or $15.00 for an hour. Never had a problem getting to use one of the computers.
We took an day excursion of 1/2 day jeep 1/2 day catamaran with snorkling and lunch. The price was $110 US per person. Would highly recommend this excursion. We booked it through the resort. One of the best excursions I have ever taken and I have been travelling south for twelve years.
Visited the gym three times, it consists of two treadmills, two bikes, one stepper and free weights. With a view looking out at the four tennis courts, quite nice.
We walked to Devils bridge it took approximately 35 mins each way and well worth the walk. Beautiful scenery. Got caught in a rain shower but only lasted 5 mins and then there was a beautiful rainbow.
Marys outhouse is worth the walk up the hill .. The scenery from here is breathtaking. Chicken and ribs and local beer is great.
Read about the birds in the restaurant. There are alot of birds but when you get up to go get food just cover your water glass. Birds are only there in the morning, never seen them at lunch or evening meals. In the evening there are cats wandering around but if you don't feed them they don't bother you. I am not a cat lover and never had any problems with the cats.
Read alot of reviews before travelling to this resort spme were not good. Not sure what their expections are when travelling south? I have travelled to Cuba, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, St. Lucia, very well travelled and been to lots of different resorts. and would highly recommend this resort for a great vacation.
Room Tip: Our room was 304 up on the hill. We had no issue with the walk up the hill, but some may find it ti...
