“The best holiday of our lives”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

Describing The Gambia and Farakunku is difficult as it is different things to different people. A relaxing holiday - yes; quality accommodation, yes: an active holiday, yes; an eye-opening holiday, yes.
Sun, sun, sun. No mosquitos seen during our week, in fact no nasties at all. The more you put yourself into the holiday the more you get out of it.
If your interested in Eco-rourism then this is the place for you. If you like good food this is it.
The hosts Heather and Moses plus all the wonderful staff are like friends rather than 'in charge' and nothing is too much trouble.
Cast all prejudices aside regarding Africa as if you haven't been before this is the perfect way to start.
The mark for sleep quality is only based on the numerous birds who start early which is wonderful too - especially the African Laughing Dove !
We will definitely return - and soon.

Room Tip: There are only four and everyone excellent.

“An Eco Haven with Personal Service”

It is a wonderful Lodge in a tranquil and rural setting. Your hosts Heather and Moses are very special people who look after you like family and friends. The lodges are spacious and pristine with four distinct areas, a great bathroom, comfy living area, sleeping area with lovely netted four poster beds and a dressing area with a lockable door as a security facility. The food is all local and excellant. Heathers joy is her garden which attracts widlife and is a great place to chill out, as is the plunge pool area, complete with sun loungers, and an array of bird life. The staff are friendly and it is staffed 24/7, Moses provide a shuttle to the beach which has miles of golden sand, a good beach bar and no hassle or bumsters. Thank you Heather and Moses we cannot wait to go back. Ray

“Great Place”

We had a great stay at the Farakunku Lodges, the owners Heather and Moses were extremely good hosts. The lodges are spacious, kept spotlessly clean and have a walk in wardrobe where you can lock your valuables. The staff were always freindly and helpful. Moses was happy to drive us to the local beach (free of charge) We only stayed 3 nights but wished we had stayed longer

“A little bit of paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Everything previously said is true, Farakunku Lodge is the most relaxing place to stay in Gambia. The gardens are a delight well planted to encourage the birds/wildlife, but still provide enough shade from the sun. The Lodges are immaculate, lovely netted four poster bed, plenty of room to relax inside, loved the lockable walk in waldrobe kept everything tidy. The shower in the wetroom had lovely hot water and was powerful. It was also nice to have your own private terrace outside your door with sun bed, hammock and table and chairs.
Heather and Moses were so friendly, couldnt do enough for you. The food was fantastic, 3 courses every night and decent coffee afterwards.
The location is away from the tourist area but it was refreshing to go for a walk without being pestered all the time and to just enjoy the surroundings.

“Stay here - its lovely like all the reviews say ...I promise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2011

Farakunku Lodge is even nicer than the photos on its website indicate, perhaps because the gardens are more established now. The lodge was really lovely with a four poster bed in a spacious and cool bedroom, walk in wardrobe and immaculate bathroom (where everything worked). The hosts - Heather and Moses - are lovely as well! Moses took us where ever we wanted and looked after us completely. Heather provided fantasic food and hospitality. Someone somewhere said good basic food is on offer here. I thought the food was fab and certainly provided excellent value for money. Always three courses using locally produced ingredients and fish caught that day. The lodge is well situated for a trip to Tanji fishing village or Abuko and Lamin lodge and Heather and Moses will arrange all this for you, as well as offer a Bureau de Change service. It is a short drive to a beach shack which had about five customers and a virtually empty beach when we went there - and the best fish dishes for miles. Heather took us and advised we order an hour or two in advance because they have to go and get the fish.....what could be better if you want to get away from it all for a while? The compound can be described as rural I suppose. It is away from the tourist strip and sits near the compounds of the staff. If you want to experience real Gambia and understand its people, way of life and culture better this is a good place to go. I really recommend it and can't think of anything negative say....

Room Tip: All four lodges are the same
