I visited Shadow Lawn for the first time this week - business traveller. Upon arrival, after driving thru some nasty weather, I asked for, and received, a nice cup of tea. This set the tone for the rest of the stay. Very good service, excellent food, and a very comfortable room on a cold winter night. I look forward to returning there again.

Room Tip: I was told that I had one of the 'larger rooms', so am unsure of the size of the others. Bu...

This elegant hotel is on one of the main roads in Rothesay. Access to the hotel is very easy, with ample parking places, and the hotel and gardens are well kept up. The restaurant is wonderful and the food was delicious. The rooms are large by European standards and well furnished. The service is good and the hotel in a quiet location.

“Very pleasant but a few things need improvement!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

My husband and I recently stayed here for a weekend to attend a couple of family events in the area. Our overall reaction was the whole place was a bit "tired". The whole interior had a dreary feel to it. Our room, Room#2, was pleasant enough, but the window frames were peeling and the TV remote didn't work. {obviously I'm sure if we had pointed this out they would have fixed it} but we were not there to watch television - just something in my opinion, that we shouldn't have to report. Our stay included "breakfast" and we were surprised that we have had better "complementary breakfasts" in chain motels. There was a cooked breakfast menu available for a price, but really, the "free" offering was very, very poor, except for the fresh fruit. At $125.00 per night for the room, we expected better. We were there however, for a family luncheon which we had outside on the terrace and the food was really excellent, so they certainly have a decent chef. Finally our flight left very early Sunday morning and there was no offer to leave some cereal or something out for us to eat which could easily have been done. Indeed there were two other couples from the Inn on the same flight so there were six of us who got nothing to eat until we got back to Toronto. Two years ago, staying near Rome airport, a small hotel actually fixed us coffee and eggs at 4:00 am so that we had something to eat before our flight. The Shadow Lawn needs to make improvements.

“Beautiful ambience, relaxed feel, good food in beautiful Rothesay”

I have been coming to Shadow Lawn Inn for at least 15 years as a business traveller and have loved the charm of Shadow Lawn Inn located in beautiful Rothesay close to Saint John, NB. The inn has the elegance that only exists in old homes...with its high ceilings, beautiful details. Recently it has been taken over by a new owner who is injecting new ideas into the inn....I arrived last trip to find my room beautifully rennovated. After a long day of work and travel, it was the nicest surprise. Check out the rooms on the internet - the owner and staff really care about the guest experience. The dining room offers creative light menus if that is all you want or a more traditional full menu. Food is cooked onsite with local ingredients and the ambience of the dining rooms looking out to the garden (if it is nice you can even sit outside) is wonderful. Staying at Shadow Lawn is a special experience that only unique inns like this can offer. Free internet, accomodating friendly staff....beautiful surroundings and close enough to the highway exit that you can easily get anywhere in the vicinity.
