“A great place to stay with your family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Our family (2 adults and two teenagers) stayed in a 3 bedroom villa for 10 nights. It was very comfortable and there was lots of room. There were 2 bathrooms which was fantastic. The decor was a little tired / dated but it was well maintained and very clean.
There were lots of activities - we did several but the crab racing was the highlight - we hadn't laughed so much for ages!!!! It was disappointing that the talk about the black pearls didn't happen - the lady didn't turn up twice.
We swam lots and once we were able to get snorkeling gear we snorkeled everyday. The restaurant food was nice but not spectacular. The staff were lovely and very helpful.

“Comfortable, Relaxing and Courteous Service”

We stayed for six days at the Edgewater. The resort is clean and well maintained. We stayed at one of the Garden Villas which was fabulous. For a family of four we had plenty of space and the dining area and kitchen allowed us to have our own meals in the villa. The beaches are clean and the snorkelling at the Edgewater was excellent. At our time at the Cook Islands it was one of the better spots. The equipment on-site is not readily available. Snorkelling equipment is sparse (we rented off-site), the tennis rackets are old, and pool table could be re-surfaced. The staff are friendly. The on-site Budget for cars, bike, and guided tours is extremely handy.

We had a great beachfront view from our room, which we would say was excellent (2 adults, 1 child). Room was well maintained. We were disappointed with price and quality of food. $40 pp including kids for an average feed of bbq. $18 for a toasted sandwich. $8.50 for a dessert sized bowl of wedges. Unless you like tuna, marlin, wahoo or rock cod, you will be disappointed with the seafood. If you stay, get breakfast in the deal or you will find it even more expensive(from $21 for buffet style breakie). The gift shop there was much better value than town or the markets. Take your own snorkel gear and definately need swim reefshoes for the lagoon(that applies all around the island). The pool is a bit small but when in shade is a great place out of the sun for the kids. Kids enjoy the crab hunting and crab races. The Friday night Nightlife tour was alot of fun. Cocktails way overpriced, and drinks not cold enough.

“Nice resort, excellent beach, Cook Island Hospitality!”

I have stayed at the Edgewater a number of times over the last 20 years. My wife and I were married there in 1992, renewed our vows there in 2009 and will be there again this July and August to celebrate our 20th anniversary.

It is situated on the west side of the island - generally "better" weather and AMAZING sunsets!

If you are expecting a Sheraton -like 5 star resort - think again - this is a tiny island in the Pacific -- but it is a clean, comfortable place - and the Villas are lovely (clean, bright and simple - perfect for the Cook Islands climate. ( by most US standards the amenities here would be rated as a 3 star hotel - just so you know!) Most rooms come with an "Island Breakfast" included - basically continental breakfast, cereals and lots of fruit.

Meals tend to be expensive, but if this a "once in a lifetime" trip - take in the Edgewater's Island night (around $65NZ). Ta'akoka (the saturday night group) are outstanding performers close the the winning standards of the inter -island dance competition. For a more "authentic" but much less polished experience try the Staircase restauant in Avarua -- they do dance shows Thursday and Fridays -- Dinner around $25 - or show only for $6.

As tourism has increased over the last two decades - so have resort prices so we stay there less often now - but for a 1 - 2 week holiday - I don't think you can do better.

Room Tip: Stay away from the garden rooms at the very back of the resort -- it is by the parking and sewage pr...
