“Change of ownership”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We made a return visit to Yapham. Ownership changed in JUNE 2011 but it was hard to tell from the website until early Oct. The new owners are trying to emulate the previous owners in providing scones jam cream chocolates and wine etc. Fresh home cooked meals are no longer provided although the documentation in the cottage indicated they were. The frozen meals available were now in the main provided by a local business rather than Jane[the previous owner. The cottage documentation still referred to the previous ownership. Its quite different under the new ownership after being shown to the cottage on arrival we did not see the new owners until we handed back the key on leaving. Jane and Jimmy were around but never intrusive. The gardens etc do not appear as well maintained. Still a nice cottage in a lovely location. It will be interesting to see how things develop

“Lovely peaceful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

The cottages are located in a beautiful, peaceful area with lovely walks and surroundings. The cottage we stayed in was clean and tidy and had welcoming touches such as homemade scones, chocolates and flowers. We were disappointed with the very small shower room.

We chose the location of the cottages as they are advertised as being able to 'Walk across the fields to the South West Coast path' After spending over a hour walking following the owners instructions and negotiating barbed wire and a completely overgrown path we had to admit defeat.

“A lovely cottage in a beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2011

We have just returned from our first visit to Yapham cottages and we had a really nice time. The cottage was clean and comfortable and the children were over joyed because they had an en-suite shower room! We felt that the owners made a big effort to make us feel welcome, with touches like fresh home made scones and even a box of chocolates.
There is plenty to do in the local area. We have two young girls (7 yrs & 10 yrs) and they were well entertained .
If we go to Devon again,we will definatly return to Yapham.

“Wonderful place for a short Fall/Winter getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2010

My husband, a couple of friends and I stayed at the smaller of the cottages two weeks ago. We had traveled to England by the Queen Mary 2 and I wanted to show my husband the beauties of rural England as he had never been. We couldn't have chosen a more beautiful location than Devon and a nicer cottage than Yapham. We especially appreciated Jane's delicious scones with the pots of jam and clotted cream the evening we arrived as we had been traveling since 6 a.m. Although the weather was stormy, the cottage with its thick stone walls and good central heating was cozy. The kitchen was very well equipped, the bedrooms comfortable; our friends were especially happy to see that they had an en suite. We were pleased to have Scrabble and a Junior Trivial Pursuit to while away the evenings. During the day we put waterproof outdoor gear on and tramped around the coastline, visited Tintagel and Clovelly. It was wonderful; the weather didn't bother us a bit and it was lovely not having to fight crowds at Tintagel.

One word of caution: restaurants are difficult to find open at this time of year and we would advise you to go farther afield than Hartland if you are looking for an evening meal. Our takeway fish and chips were terrible (my husband actually got ill on them) although Jane assured us that something must have been wrong that night because the takeaway shop is usually very good.

“spectacular coastline meets paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

Yapham is a perfect place for people trying to find some silence and rest. Nevertheless there is plenty to see and to do. The coast offers unextpected views and you learn a lot about the strength of nature. And when you come back to the cottage, you will find a comfortabel place. We stayed at Barley Cottage for two weeks and every single day was a treat. Jane and Jimmy know how to make people feel happy.
For us it was a privilege to get the chance of sharing two weeks with them on their estate.
