This is the second time I've stayed at the Maswik Lodge. The first time was 2 years ago February. The lodge appears to be under new management and using fewer staff. I stayed with my wife in a south room. The rate quoted was $92. It was negotiable when paid in cash. Desk people were definitely NOT the friendliest I had ever come across.
The rooms are a bit frayed. I had a ground floor room which I assumed was a handicapped room as the doorways were especially wide and there was a myriad of safety handles in the bath. The heat worked wonderfully which was a plus as the night time temps fell precipitously. Beds were comfortable. Parking lot is full of deer at night. Canyon Rim is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Cable television. WI-FI available. No refrigerator.
As few guests as there were at the Maswik 2 years ago there are far fewer now. There is a cafeteria style restaurant adjacent to the check-in desk. There is also a pizza pub serving mediocre pizza. The bar there seems to be a big attraction for park employees getting off of work. I never saw anybody but my wife and myself in the pub as far as tourists were concerned.
The hotel is fine for what it is. You're paying for the location and not the amenities as there are few amenities to mention. We might have stayed longer if it were not for the lack of social atmosphere.
