We made reservations for a cabin at the Apgar Village in February, and we showed up in July for our vacation. The cabin was great. We needed an inexpensive place to stay and did want the privacy of our own bathroom. This cabin was perfect. If you can't spend a lot, a cabin is the way to go. We were there for four days and nights. We did the Highway to the Sun drive, an all day horseback ride to and from Sperry Chalet, lots of hiking, and a boat ride around Lake McDonald. We had gorgeous weather, sunny and hot, 90 degrees. The scenery from the drive, horseback, and hiking are spectacular. The boat ride was wonderfully relaxing after all the other outdoor activity. We saw mountain goats at Logan's Pass and had a thrill as they walked right by us on a narrow trail, stones falling down over the edge of the path as they bounced along past us.
How cool they were; I didn't want to let go of the cable strung along the trail for safety! We also saw many cute chipmunks in the campgrounds and village area. Each night we could sit at a picnic table and look out over Lake McDonald. It was daylight until 10:00 p.m. and with no TV (a blessing!) it was peaceful to sit by the lake. Of course, some evenings were more peaceful than others with the kids of visitors running and yelling, but each night was different. I would highly recommend staying at a cabin in Apgar Village. It was a great experience. Glacier itself is a great experience!
