We made reservations late in July for the Hotel in Apgar village for the end of August. It was money well spent. We arrived to a scenic little village all abustle with visitors from all over. Everyone was friendly. The view from the shore of lake MacDonald was every bit as fabulous as Lake Louise. It was cloudy and rainy the whole time we were there, but we hardly noticed. Going to the Sun road was closed at the halfway mark because of mud slides so we went up one way and then travelled the park to St. Mary and went up the other way. Our 7 yr old was fascinated because she could actually touch the clouds! There is shopping, hiking, restaraunts, wild life, boating, site seeing, mountains, water ... and most of all - indoor plumbing! I highly recommend it!

“Challenging Camping”

Stayed at the Apgar campground 4 nights in July '04. The campground is attractive, quiet, great access to Lake McDonald, shops at Apgar village. Teens really liked the proximity to shops/restaurants. However we were tent camping and it was a REAL CHALLENGe as there are no showers and due to bear precautions you have to store all cooking, cleaning, food supplies in your vehicle. So every meal you unpack it all and set it up, and then after doing dishes you pack it all back in your car. BIG HASSLE. Next time I will stay in one of the lodges or motor inns or take an RV. But the park is WONDERFUL!

“Cabins Make for a Great Vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2004

We made reservations for a cabin at the Apgar Village in February, and we showed up in July for our vacation. The cabin was great. We needed an inexpensive place to stay and did want the privacy of our own bathroom. This cabin was perfect. If you can't spend a lot, a cabin is the way to go. We were there for four days and nights. We did the Highway to the Sun drive, an all day horseback ride to and from Sperry Chalet, lots of hiking, and a boat ride around Lake McDonald. We had gorgeous weather, sunny and hot, 90 degrees. The scenery from the drive, horseback, and hiking are spectacular. The boat ride was wonderfully relaxing after all the other outdoor activity. We saw mountain goats at Logan's Pass and had a thrill as they walked right by us on a narrow trail, stones falling down over the edge of the path as they bounced along past us.
How cool they were; I didn't want to let go of the cable strung along the trail for safety! We also saw many cute chipmunks in the campgrounds and village area. Each night we could sit at a picnic table and look out over Lake McDonald. It was daylight until 10:00 p.m. and with no TV (a blessing!) it was peaceful to sit by the lake. Of course, some evenings were more peaceful than others with the kids of visitors running and yelling, but each night was different. I would highly recommend staying at a cabin in Apgar Village. It was a great experience. Glacier itself is a great experience!
