Our experience in three nights at La Mirabella made us eager to return, if only just to renew our acquaintance with Fiona and Carl. Despite our rather spur of the moment reservation, they eagerly welcomed us, and by our departure we felt as if we were old friends. Fiona was especially kind when I was not feeling well, providing comfort with tea and toast and concern that one seldom finds in a B&B experience.
The accommodations at La Mirabella are very attractive and comfortable--spacious rooms with good beds, wonderful bathrooms, good lighting (often missing in Italy), and public areas with sofas that invite lounging. Carl's renovations to this ancient property have been completed to the highest standard. Descriptions of the history and progress of the work are fascinating. The views all around the house are wonderful--on the terrace where Fiona served delicious breakfasts we lingered to soak in the sights of the lake on one side and the green hills climbing to the grand mountains of the Sibillini National Park on the other.
La Mirabella is a good base for exploring this area of Italy with few tourists but many charming and interesting towns. We took day trips to Ascoli Piceno and San Benedetto del Tronto and easily could have done more exploring had we not been rather in resting mode. Carl and Fiona have lots of recommendations for good food in the surrounding area.
The hospitality and accommodations at this wonderful B & B make us recommend it highly.
