My husband and I enjoyed four fabulous days with Shendell and Shane at Barrier Beach House. The fares (bures) are right on the beach with fabulous views of white sand, crystal clear, aqua-coloured water and massive shady trees. The fares have comfortable beds, floor to ceiling wooden shutters, insect screens, fans and air-conditioning. Beautiful tropical flowers adorn the bed and the bathroom. You have your own private deck with table and chairs and bowls of seashells adds to the ambience. Right next door to the fare is the main lounge/dining area. There are very comfortable lounge chairs if you want somewhere comfortable to relax and /or read and there is also a day bed on the deck. Breakfast and dinner is served on the deck and you can dine alone or enjoy the company of other guests. As there are only three fares, you will never feel crowded. A tropical continental breakfast is included in your accommodation cost. This consists of a choice of cereals, toast, a fresh fruit platter, juice, tea or coffee. It is a great light and healthy start to your day. You can also get burgers, toasted sandwiches or frittata for lunches at a reasonable price. On one of our days, Ian and I purchased a picnic hamper, hired a tender (small boat) and set off across to an uninhabited small island for lunch and a swim. On other days we ate our own snacks that we had brought with us. Each day there is a set meal for dinner and you have the option of dining in, dining at the restaurant at Moyan House (right next door) or driving into Luganville. My recommendation is to dine with Shane and Shendell and the other guests. The food wasn't gourmet but was a very good, home-cooked meal and delicious. The steaks were great and at $20 per person, meals were reasonably priced. There is no menu though to choose from so it may not suit all tastes. You get what you get and it's not really suited to vegetarians but I'm sure Shendell and Shane would be happy to provde a vegetarian option with plenty of prior notice. You can purchase alcohol to have with your meals or retire to your own private deck after dinner to enjoy your own bottle of wine if you have brought one with you. The restaurant at Moyan House next door has a menu that would cater to most tastes. If you are looking for a beach location to chill out without the crowds, this is it! We loved it and Shendell and Shane are great hosts - very friendly and laid-back. And if you want a touch of pampering, go next door to Moyan House Day Spa for a facial and foot massage - heavenly! We will definitely come back to Barrier Beach House! Enjoy!
