my daughter had come from germany to malaysia for a short holiday, each time she comes she likes to visit penang, its about a four hour drive from Kuala lumpur. We atayed at the equatorial hotel for no special reason, there was a good deal on groupon thats how we stayed there. The atmosphere in the hotel is quite nice , the small garden and a mini stream flowing through makes a nice place to go for a mini stroll, the swimming pool is nothing much, the adjoining jacuzzi was without water and the back portion of the swimming pool where i presume the bar used to be was dark and gloomy,The staff of the hotel needs surely more training how to serve guests and general mannerism, the service is very slow, we waited about 20 min before a waiter came to take our orders, 10 min. later another waiter came to ask as about our order, the first waiter was busy with a function and had forgotten about us, well breakfast was a real disappointment, again staff that did no know what to do, the food was overall looked unappetizing and tasted not good at all. But i must say the room we stayed in (506 ) was very good it was spacious and we had a good view from the balcony onto penang brigde, at night it was quiet, the bathroom was well equipped with soaps, shampoos etc,The internet connection was bad eventhough we stayed in a business wing room, This hotel is surely not for holiday makers since there is actually nothing around this hotel. we were lucky to drive around since we had our car, so we discovered a hidden historical treasure hidden away in the jungle surrounded batu maung, here we found a war museum that was actually a fortress in the 1930 build by the british, it was something so fantastic to visit and was for sure a great enrichment. the side was forgotten by the locals for almost 70 years, the jungle kept the secret, then while building a new housing area this fortress was discovered. i will not go much into detail, who ever likes history should go and visit for themselves, all artifacts buildings ,shelters, tunnels and so on is all kept in a good state.
Further we visitted the penang peranakan mansion , which was a typical home of the baba nonyas here we were introduced to the lavish lifestyle of the baba nonyas in the 19th century, a place must see when in penang
506 was a good room to stay in it had a great view and was quiet, located in the business wing
