My mother and I stayed here in july of 2011 for 3 nights. We had emailed the owner of this family-run hotel to schedule a pickup from our ferry upon arriving in Mykonos from Athens and had a confirmation from them for the time and day. However, we arrived to dozens of hotels and their drivers picking up their customers from the port and ours was no where to be seen. We figured they were just running a little late, so we waited at the port. An hour later, and we were still waiting.
My mother finally called them on her cell phone (we wanted to wait for this until the last minute due to the cost of doing this!!) and a less than polite response from reception when she explained we were waiting for them, asking who had told us this. When she said she had an email confirmation from the owner though, her tone changed.
They sent someone over right away, and within 5 minutes we were at the hotel (we could have walked there if we had known where we were going). We weren't really offered an apology, as the lady at the reception told us their driver was picking someone else up at the airport at the same time, but we had a confirmation from the owner that someone would be there to meet us. We would have taken a taxi to the hotel instead of waiting an hour at the port for them had we known, so we were a little displeased with this. They even had our phone number to call us to let us know, but no one did, so clearly there was a bit of an organization issue happening that day.
She sat down with us though and told us the places we should visit while we were there, which was appreciated, and the owner went above and beyond to help us with our rental car details.
We rented a bungalow room, which was basic, furnished with a small television and 2 twin beds, but it was clean and had a great porch with fantastic views of the ocean, as the hotel and the bungalow is situated high on a hill. The room has a mini fridge, so we went into town to buy a few groceries to put in the fridge. However, we found out after coming back that the fridge was not working, so we had to ask the owner to put it in her personal fridge, and she did.
The room as an air conditionning unit, but it rattled SO loudly, that we couldn't have it on at night, so again, something that needed to be changed in that room.
Maybe we were just having bad luck with our room, as we loved the property. It had a small, but great little pool, flowers everywhere and again, great view from wherever you were.
The location is far from the city centre, so we rented a car (very much worth it!!) and drove to all the secluded beaches the receptionnist had suggested to us, which was amazing. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious and we enjoyed that. Just down the hill from the hotel, there are 2 restaurants, one of the left and one on the right. The one on the right isn't anything special, but the one on your left (coming down the hill, part of a hotel as well) is absolutely amazing...if you stay at rhenia, definitely eat there!
I would come back here for sure if issues mentionned above and disorganization at reception were dealt with, as we enjoyed the rest of our stay here. Without these improvements though, I would choose to stay somewhere else.
