Just had one night here, and my advice would be, if you are staying in the Pinhao area and have transport, don't stay here, stay at the Casa de Visconde in Chanceleiros which is just much better in terms of food, wine, rooms, pool, garden and ambience. The room was quite cramped and had superfluous "antique" furniture without much use. Service was supposed to be old style country house, but was a bit irritating. For example, I wasn't going to unpack because only there literally overnight, but left some bits and pieces on the bed before dinner and it was only by chance that I opened the wardrobe in the morning and found they'd been put away when the maid turned down the bed, so could easily have left them behind. The company at dinner, as it happened, was great: interesting and pleasant travellers with plenty to say. The food was served in old fashioned style which some may like, but the cooking was not better than average. Good wine, though limited list. The manager was very attentive and eager, but not very good at picking up on non verbal cues, and ended up being quite intrusive. The grading given to service is to reflect this and not the service from the other staff, who were very good.
