“Short Stay”

This is 4start hotel located 15min drive from main city (Ponta Delgada) on S.Miguel island. Getting to my opinion on some of the features:
Location: Good, but distant from city if you do not intend to rent transportation. View to the ocean, 1min walking from a very nice beach.
Product: You will be able to find all facilities required on 4star hotels, room are very big, spacious, following the old "rich" style that tries to transmit. Serving Continental breakfast in the morning. Nothing out of normal.
Price: This is not the cheapest product you may find. If you manage to get price down on via any channels than great.

Generally I would say yes for couples that want a bit of privacy and paradise view.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are a must.

“Very welcoming”

Travelled to the Azores in July and must say it was great. The island of Sao miguel was beautiful. The hotel was very nice and the location stunning right on the ocean but unfortunately the customer service was lacking. The hotel is about 20 minutes from the capital city of Ponta Delgada and there is local bus service at the main entrance. It is easy to drive the island and a much nicer way to see everything as well. Make sure you check out pricing on rental cars cause the hotel tends to charge more than the local companies. The easier way to get information is to go into the tourism office in the city, we found the hotel staff wasn't forth coming with information or just didn't know. The food at the hotel was just ok nothing great. There wasn't much fish of any kind on the evening buffet which usually constisted of about 3 options for main dish. Overall I would go back to the Azores but I do believe I would stay in a hotel that provides a little more customer service.

Room Tip: most rooms have sea view there are some that face the parking lot so make sure to ask for seaview.

“Very nice hotel, even the food is quite good!”

Well, this hotel is situated nearby Vila Franca do Campo, but you need a taxi or a car to go there. There are no sidewalks or bike trails at all, only a small and quite busy road. But... it's such a nice hotel! Large rooms, balcony and a nice helpfull servicedesk. It's very quiet also. The breakfast is ok and instead of all the complaining about the diner: this is very good (ofcourse it depends on your choice, but the mixed fish f.i. was very nice). We've there 8 days, had a car for 3 day's and drove +400km over very nice and good roads! It's such a beautifull island! The beach is not very good, but there is one nearby the hotel, even a nice swimming pool situated at a nice garden with sea view! It's not very touristic, we liked that.

“Good hotel on beautiful island”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

This hotel gave us a very comfortable week on Sao Miguel island. OK some of the public areas could do with a bit of freshening up. Stairway and hall carpets were badly worn dirty and stained, and the terrace outside the restaurant was a bit shabby, and some of the pool loungers were broken. But our room was huge - a junior suite with separate dressing and lounging areas - and reasonably clean apart from a red wine stain on the carpet - least I hope it was red wine!)
Reception, housekeeping and restaurant staff were mostly friendly and helpful.
The biggest drawback is the evening buffet food - not the most edifying spectacle you could wish for, but we usually managed to find something we could eat. (On holiday, anything not prepared by ourselves is good - some reviewers seem to expect Egon Roney standard everywhere they go!)
The hotel sits alongside a great beach on which there is a great little cafe that serves very cheap snacks all day. There are no other restaurants within walking distance
but a €7 taxi fare takes you into the little town of Vila Franca do Campo where there are one or two.
If you want to hire a car in August book it as soon as you can before you go - there were none available during our stay. Instead we took a full day jeep safari round one half of the island - highly recommended for seeing the sights from off road locations. The hotel has a daily free minibus into Ponta Delgado (departs 10.30 return 16.00).
There is a sauna but you have to prebook it at reception.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side of the hotel entrance have a view of the tree lined hills. Rooms on the opposite s...

“Average hotel but probably best bet on the island”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

Stayed here August 2011. The Hotel has seen better days but still was nice and reasonable. The rooms were very large (suites with multiple rooms). You could not ask for more in the rooms. They were clean and I would say above average, but not luxurious. Pool area was ok but no staff. No one at the bar area or asking for drinks etc. In fact, to get pool towels you have to check them out at the front desk. But one day when we asked for towels at 11 am we were told they were out…”we should have gotten there sooner!”. Er, ah, a so called resort hotel running out of beach/pool towels at 11 am? Come on! and internet? wow. 3 Euros an hour (2 for a half hour)…with no start and stop rights. So if you want to check your emails in the morning, and again say afternoon and again in the evening, well that will cost you three times! And it only works in the lobby area! I thought some of the staff was accommodating and nice, and others were just, well, rude.

Food was just ok. They have one restruarant for breakfast buffet and lunch, and another for dinner. Lunch place was basic and reasonably priced. Dinner was just ok, and high priced for what you could get elsewhere. Towns in either direction, 10-15 minutes, are a better bet.

I would say photos you see on Tripadvisor, Expedia etc are accurate.

The location is good. Central on the island. Easy to get everywhere from there in an hour or so. I would agree with the other reviews that you should stay here rather than in the hotels in Ponta Delgado or other big towns.

Beach is a short walk from the hotel. It’s a decent beach. Sandy not rocks or pebbles. You can go in the water, but the break is to sharp to body surf etc.
