Residence Poseidon is a small “resort” in the village of Spartia in the South of the beautiful Island of Kefalonia. It is only about 20 minutes from the airport.
Poseidon is a family run resort that makes their visitors very welcome. We visited in September 2011 – our second visit and are already looking forward to returning next year.
You should realise that approximately half the apartments are only available through Sunvil Holidays while the remainder can be booked directly with the owner. Clearly, the Sunvil option is rather more expensive, as you are buying a package as opposed to dealing direct as an independent traveller. You will easily find both websites for full information.
Really a car is essential for this area. There is a small (pretty) beach within walking distance (very steep coming back!) and just two small shops and one (recommended) restaurant in the village. A short drive away there are at least 2 fine beaches, “international” style supermarkets & many other restaurants. Do try “The Castle” (which is, strangely enough, just at the castle entrance!) – a twenty-minute drive away for an excellent lunch.
We have found the owner of Poseidon, Vaghelis, extremely helpful and friendly. He has gone out of his way to make our stay a very pleasant experience and we know he has been very accommodating with fellow holidaymakers who have had medical problems, etc.
There are loads of places to visit on Kefalonia and any guidebook will list them all. This year we also went & spent a few days (again!) on the nearby island of Ithaca – you really should try this if you value your peace & quiet. Do, however, carefully check the ferry times.
