“A decent spot by the water”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This was a typical tourist hotel in Sri Lanka - buffet restaurants, clean rooms and friendly staff. The hotel borders the beach but the beach is definitely not one that I would want to relax by for the day. The food was decent. This is a hotel that caters towards package tourists who want to avoid any semblance of Sri Lanka but instead prefer the pleasures of home. Nothing wrong with that (especially when crashing for the night) but the location of this hotel makes leaving the hotel area to explore anywhere else for the evening difficult as it is remote from Colombo.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing the sea rather than the pool (which includes hte restaurant so it can be load).

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times for short breaks as we visit sri lanka to see family but have a hotel stay to chill out also. The hotel is probably a good three star more than a four star as they advertise. They were going through a refurbishment while we were there as they are probably aware that the rooms needed an update. The staff are excellent and the food is good with a wide choice of not just Sri Lankan food, but also international choices. The pool is good and very clean and we will probably return there.

Room Tip: for western travellers, probably not worth full board and best to use this hotel as a transit hotel...

“Good food - poor sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

I stayed here for 6 nights for a work conference. Sadly it was still having some renovation work, the ground floor rooms had paint on the floor of the corridor! The lobby is large and modern and souless, though the friendly staff make up for this - especially the restaurant manager. Indeed the food was really good, incredible variety of four cooked western options alongside many more Sri Lankan choices. There were even cooked puddings of the type that took me back to my school days. The outdoor venue for the restaurant suffers a bit though with mosquitos biting under the tables. The worse thing about the hotel was the poorness of the walls / door for noise insulation - being close-ish to the airport it gets people coming in at odd hours and the design of the corridors means the noise echos around the rooms. The room itself was modern, spacious and fine, though shame that cheap sheets and towels let it down.
All in all I would recommend for a couple of nights stay but just be aware that earplugs needed.

Excellent View and restuarant is good. I visited in the month of august and restuarant is awesome and service is good for the same. But to visit any places from there the colombo city is far from that place and it will eat our time. so time contraint is very imp.

“Smelly room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

After a long drive from Kataragama, finally we reached the hotel around 8pm. The lobby entrance looked very impressive but once we got into the room it was SMELLY (musty + cigarette). The balcony door was only latched with a hook and it can't be locked. The room was dusty and the carpet has a damp feel to it. The room view was renovation debris and empty renovated rooms. The only English tv channel was National Geo.

We left quite early the next day and asked for packed breakfast. The bread on our sandwich were stall and so was the bread roll.

Try to avoid until the full renovation is done
