“If you are looking for complete peace and quiet... this is the place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2008

We stayed in the Samui Amanda in September 2007. It was our first trip to Thailand and as a couple in our early thiries, we wanted a nice play to stay that wasn't in the very busy (but lovely beach!!) Chaweng.

The Hotel is on the North West side of the Island near a port called Nathon. Nathon is quite a busy little town and you can get some great street food by the port. Nathon is about 5 minutes drive from the Samui Amanda.

The resort is set within woodland on a private beach. There are several bungalows closely spread out over the resort. We chose a bunglaow on the beach which was literally metres away from the sea. The rooms were very clean and furnished to a high quality.

The sea was quite shallow and calm when we went although I'm not sure what it is like at other times of the year. The beach is very pretty with sand and light shingle but is not very long if you wish to go wandering for hours on end!

The hotel is well off the beaten track and unless you hire a car or scooter (both of which can be done from the hotel) it is very difficult to leave the resort on foot as there isn't really anything around. It will take you approximately one hour to drive around the Island, but if you are not a confident driver, I wouldn't recommend it!

The Hotel does offer a bus shuttle service to Chaweng (the busiest resort on Koh Samui) each evening. Book your place on the bus with reception. The bus will also pick you up if you should request it at about 11pm. If you want to stay out later you can easily pick up a taxi/bus from Chaweng to take you home. From memeory the taxi home cost about £6.00 for two people.

The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The food served in the restaurant was of a very high standard and was only ruined by the awful duo that sang twice a week in the evening. (Although they were quite amusing!!! Breakfast was a selection of foods including bacon and eggs and some rather scary looking, but tasty, green cakes!

I would recommned this resort for people who after complete rest and recuperation. We had a fabulous time (the beach front bungalow really made it special) and would love to go back. You will not get disturbed here and if you want to go and explore, you can - just not on foot!

I have more pics and video of this resort should you request it.

“very dissapointed”

We just returned from the Amanda resort and were extremely unsatisfied. The resort has only two family bungalows - one with the sea view and one with "garden view". As we got the last one, it turned
out it is not garden but "kitchen back door view". Quite depressive. We asked for another bungalow, but they were all full at the moment. The food was good enough, the pool as well, but not the beach.

On their homepage they announce the cooking classes, when I asked for it, nobody knew anything. As the resort is "spa", the massage was 5 -10 times more expensive as anywhere else on the island. When we ordered the taxi through the reception desk, it was 3 times more expensive - we paid 700 baht to the Chaweng beach, when returned (with
another taxi which we stopped at the street), we paid only 250 baht. It is not a big money, but I do not like the idea, that somebody cheats me.

The biggest dissapointment was the New Year's Eve. We did not expect much, but the whole evening was terrible. The staff was making the
"stage" beside the pool the whole day, so we couldn't use the swimming
pool, but in the evening there was practicaly nothing going on! The dinner at 7, then around half an hour Thai dance, and that was it. The lady from reception desk was trying with some games, which sounded
stupid even to our kids. Till 10 pm not only the guests but even the majority of the staff dissapeared, only the reception lady stayed to count down at midnight. Depressive.

Because of all this we asked travel agent to change the hotel - we moved the next day to Fair House Hotel at Chaweng beach, which was as quiet as Amanda, but better food, nicer staff, much better rooms and much cheaper massage on the beach - for the same price! Also the beach
is much much nicer.

“disappointing in the low season”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2007

We stayed there over the weekend in last week of October (low season) , unfortunatelly the weather was very wet and the sea was weavy and far away from the usual postcardview from Thailand.

The club is smal, very private, very quiet and set up with charme but has been quite scruffy (gardening, flowers and fishtank) and lazy cared off during our stay.

The bungalows are clean, the bed is great but the bathroom needs an upgrade.
The beach was very small and only 'clean' at the hotel - nothing for jogging or walking outside of the hotel.
The restaurant food is very good, but dont expect too much from the breakfast (once again, it might be very different in high season!)

The spa has the most skilled and professional ladies I have ever experienced and the set up is really well done - an unforgetable experience for a good price!!

The hotelstaff has been always very helpful and friendly.
Check out the car rental right infront of the hotel - to be on the save side, go for a jeep.

“Bit disappointed”

We are a coulple in our mid thirties and stayed at the Samui Amanda Resort in August. The Resort itself was lovely, rooms a bit basic but clean. . . . but absolutely nothing going on there. There were no other restaurants or shops in the immediate vicinity,a 20 minute stroll down a busy main road brought you to a small shop selling basic stuff and a beachside restaurant, that was sometimes open sometimes closed, which was a pain if you had decided not to dine at the hotel that evening & walked all the way down there. The food at the hotel was o.k, but got a bit tedious after a few days, staff were o.k, friendly enough. The beach was also a bit of a let down, no swimming - too shallow, no sunbathing really as the tide comes right in very early, Chaweng Beach is a lot nicer. We had to go into Chaweng most nights as the resort was far too boring to have spent 10 nights. We got the free bus supplied by the hotel, but this means you must be ready for 19.30, and a taxi back which averaged at 500 bahts. Tip. If going to Chaweng in the day, jump on the van type taxis, bit of a bumpy ride but only pennies.

wouldn't stay here again as there are far more nicer hotels for the same cost in a better location.

“A Small Piece of Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2007

Wow what a place.

the staff are great, and always try there best to help you.

we stayed in the honeymoon suite, I would recomend this or a beach frount as you are only about 5 meters from the beach.

Very good food at good prices.

you are away from the main town but if you want the naff tacky main drag with late bars, clubs and drag acts then you might not be your thing.

This is a quiet resort to relax and enjoy.

  • Liked — the location and the peace and tranquility
  • Disliked — not alot really
