We spent two fabulous weeks at Weekender VILLA after our Cleanse at Spa Samui, which is two doors down.
Tony is from Australia, so it was so refreshing to not have any language barriers or misconceptions at bill paying time! Weekender Villa has a beautiful beachfront bar that is open to all, you don't have to be a guest. And they are so friendly and enjoy what they do that it just translates to how they are with everyone. If you are walking along the beach, fancy a beer or rum drink, come on in, and you can even take a dip in the pool. Just be polite and be sure to order something!
They make a delicious Fresh Coconut Water with Bacardi Rum and lime - oh, sooooo good! And for breakfast they have a great fruit plate or fruit and yogurt breakfast, as well as yummy eggs and awesome coffee.
We were there during the off season (translation, lower rates) and the rates were 500 Baht (around $15 US dollars) to 1500 Baht (around $45 US dollars). I think the less expensive is fan and no DVD player (still has TV!), and the most expensive is ocean side with all the bells and whistles. They even have in-room safes.
The nearby Spa Samui has Radiance Restaurant that is open B, L, D and it is a reasonably priced, delicious eating option. The Beach Republic and Le Meridien/Starwood are nearby expensive options (but obviously we're in a good neighborhood!)
It is fun to walk to town, we did everyday, and Lamai has everything you need from gifts, 300 Baht massages ($9 US), tons of really good restaurants, Samui Fitness (great gym and they even have a low monthly rate), food stands, entertainment, etc.
The Weekender Villa Staff are friendly and fabulous. Also, be aware, there are two more Weekenders in Lamai, but they are in town (translation: louder and more expensive). This one is on the Ring Road on your way to Lamai from Chaweng or the Airport. It is on the left (beachside) after Beach Republic and Le Meridien and before Spa Samui and Buddy's, if your taxi takes the left onto Lamai Road, then they are taking you to the wrong one. You want Weekender VILLA :-)
Room Tip: Great value to have one of the rooms behind the restaurant/bar.
