“does not correspond to a 4 stars hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

1. Position
The hotel is located in a noisy atmosphere (near the highway, railway and road in front of the hotel), hence forget it if you want to have some rest; however this is very practical when you want to move to Firenze (45km) and Siena (95km).
Swimming pool located in the park at the shadow of the trees, hence water very cold even if 30°C ambient conditions. All around the pool you have areas without grass what dirties the water of the pool...
2. Rooms
The rooms are small, old fashoned, not really clean (never vacuum cleaned during our stay). The windows (single glazing) do not close. Pick up some equipments to figth the musquitos.
3. Food (we were in half board)
Breakfast: Buffet was correct not more. E.g: Coffee machine sometime out of service, the taste really far from the italian coffee one.
The dinner: Buffet correct also but not more. If you want to discover the typical tuscany cooking you will not come back at home with idea of reciept...
4. Personel
Personel at the reception is pleasant.
Personel at the restaurant correct not more.
5. Conclusion
We will not recommend this hotel to our family or our friends.

“Lovely old villa hotel, good staff, food, pool but mosquitos!!”

We stayed here for 3 nights in 2 double rooms. Rooms comfortable, clean and with antique furniture. Plumbing antique too!! showers/bathrooms need updating.Pool nice and cooling but a bit messy as no astroturf of paving surrounding it....lots of pine needles on your feet. Breakfast ok if a bit uninspiring..staff good, made a mixup with our last nights booking (and other peoples!) but gave us a family room and a free dinner with wine to compensate! fair enough. Dinner served outside under a big pergola .. reasonably priced good quality set menu with buffet starter/primi and sweet....but beware the mosquitos!! Montecatini a great base for exploring north Tuscany, railway station 10 mins walk from hotel. Town itself nice with plenty good restaurants and a Ferrari shop! Would return.

“A brilliant hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2010

This Hotel is amazing the first night I spent there after a tiresome exam period I slept better than I had before. At dinner there is wide variety with the choice of a meat dish, a fish dish, and a pasta dish along with a variety of side orders. When I got to my room I went over to the window and looked out to see a beautiful view. The staff are very friendly and helpfull. Once on a day trip I fell and injured my knee, when i got back to the hotel I went straight to my room, my family had explained to the staff and at 7pm I had an ice pack brought to my room along with dinner and a drink. Also for those of you who like to keep up with their e-mail then there is a computer to help you keep up.

“Great service, relaxing atmosphere, lovely garden, authentic Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2010

A bit late in reviewing this hotel, but now thinking about summer 2010. We (4 of us including one teenager) spent 2 weeks here last summer. Our son had his own single room and was very happy with his minibar, and bathroom. And he is very fussy about these things. He slept well and comfortably. We with our younger son had a junior suite, wth a lovely balcony, looking over the driveway. We really liked the old building. I am not sure what other reviewers are saying about the building; there are lovely genuine antiques here, old furniture, and traditional floral wallpapers and heavy wooden shutters. I am very fussy indeed about bathroom cleanliness and ours was spotless.

The food suited us all well. Our teenage son found plenty of steak to his taste, whilst I enjoyed fish, some lovely homemade soups, fresh salads and vegetables, all local produce from the nearby markets. The food is very authentically Tuscan, so you get the fish from the coast done 'alla Livornese' with a tomato salsa, or breaded veal 'alla milanese' (NOT like the horrid prepackaged bought stuff we get in the UK) for instance; and of course lots of beans in various guises. The fresh peaches were lovely!

The staff were very solicitous and helpful to make our stay enjoyable. Come here if you want quiet times reading round the pool, authentic food, access to Florence, Pisa and the coast by rail or road. Don't come if you're wanting a package holiuday with loads of cheap giimmicks. Do come here if you love Italy!

“A great place to explore surrounding cities”

Montecatini Terme is 5 minutes from the main motorway halfway between Florence and Pisa. It is a great place to stay and explore both of these cities and others such as Lucca. The hotel itself is a 10 minute walk from the centre of Montecatini or you can cycle on the hotel bikes into town in a few minutes (its flat!) The hotel is full of antiques and the staff are really helpful and friendly. The pool and gardens are gorgeous and there is always a lifeguard on duty. Our room was quite small but very well decorated. The dinner at the hotel was really nice and the bar is open until late - but typically the drinks are expensive. It is probably worth having dinner in the hotel as strangely there aren't many restaurants in Montecatini itself. The hotel is on a main road but is set well back from this road and you can't hear any noise. I would definitely stay here again.
