“Our stay @ ocean point”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2007

We also read some of the negative reviews on Ocean Point Hotel but we decided to go anyway. We weren't disappointed.
On our arrival we received arranged transport to carry us to the hotel. We were greeted with a warm & friendly manager who made us feel at home.
Our room was poolside which was cozy & clean with a well equipped kitchen.
The Restaurants meals were excellent & were served by very pleasant & jovial cook, who encouraged any special requests & pleasant conversation.
In my opinion it's a wonderful hotel for young couples or those who wish to get away from it all.

“Great value for your money at Ocean Point”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2007

We decided to book at Ocean Point because the price was in our lower budget and because of the excellent customer service when booking our stay. However, after reading some of the other terrible reviews about this hotel, we almost considered not showing up and immediately going to another hotel. But we decided to check it out since our money could not be refunded for a one night stay. When we arrived, we were immediately surprised. The hotel looked nothing like the pictures on the website or on other travellers' candid photos. It looked more modern and was much better than we expected after reading the reviews. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the new manager Ostra. We were astonished by her friendliness and willingness to help and provide information on things to do since this was our first visit to Tobago. We stayed in the Poolside Studio, which had a nice little private alcove patio with chairs, a table, and a hammock, and was steps away from the pool. The room was clean and had two beds and a little kitchenette to prepare small meals. The fridge was very helpful to keep drinks and food. The room came with cable TV and an airconditioner, although we preferred to keep the windows open to get the nice ocean breeze. The washroom was clean and had hot and cold water. The hotel has a small restaurant run by a friendly woman named Lynnette. She made us feel comfortable like we were at home. The continental breakfast included with the room was a nice touch and great to start off your morning. We enjoyed the hotel so much that we extended our stay. We would definately recommend this hotel for traveller's who want to get the real feel of the country and don't want the glitz and glam of a more expensive hotel. We took a few pictures of the hotel to show a more up-to-date look of the hotel.

“Small Friendly Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2007

This is a great little hotel. We had a group of 5 couples and had a great time during our week long stay. The hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly. The pricing was straightforward, inexpensive and included the VAT. If you are expecting a resort atmosphere, you're not going to get it here. This hotel worked great for us as a home base for exploring the island. We had both of the attic studios and enjoyed spending time on the back deck. I would highly recommend this hotel for an inexpensive place to stay and relax away from any crowds.

“A Scary Place”

Tabago is such a crime ridden place. This Hotel is just across the street from the Hilton but it has 6 foot block walls around the complex with 5 strands of Barbed wire on top of the wall and then circular razor wire going around the top 2 strands of barbed wire. If you want to be in prison with the keys go to Tabago.

“Sleep in your car instead.”

Oh god, where do I begin?

This place was the biggest joke ever, even for Tobago. Don’t believe a word of their website or photos. I have no clue what the golf course is even referring to. The only nice part of the Ocean Point Hotel was the Hilton pool a mile away.

I couldn’t tell if the manager was schizophrenic or always drunk. We were constantly warned that if we (two college aged guys) brought back girls to the room, they would have to pay for lodging. Mind you, we never even asked this question, he just felt like letting us know. I suppose he does enforce this rule. As soon as the sun sets, he walks around with an iron stick.

We locked ourselves out of our room once. You get about 4 different keys when you check in. They look the same but no no! I don’t even remember seeing 4 different locks, so we took the ones we thought we didn’t need off the key ring. Anyways, we lock ourselves out and ask our helpful manager to provide a spare. Said he didn’t have one. How do you get into clean the rooms then? The maid will have one tomorrow. So my friend had to have the woman in the room next to us and let us onto her balcony and climb around the outside. We were on the 3rd floor.

And believe the warnings you see everywhere, they are serious about the towels! Upon checkout, we had to wait while he went upstairs and counted. He needs some practice counting as he came back and demanded we return a missing towel. We didn’t have it and went through a back and forth for about 20 mins which was only complicated by his bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. It got to the point I finally gave in and offered the $20 US to just pay for the friggin towel. He started arguing that he wouldn’t accept the money and wanted his towel since it was all about the principal of it. He threatened to call the police which I welcomed him to do. I produced a business card of a local detective (more on that later) and suggested he call him. After backing down from that demand and a thorough search of our luggage we left.

The hot water was non-existent and the fridge kept our drinks at a steady room temperature. I would never go back. This place should be on Fear Factor. If you haven’t decided on going to Tobago yet, stay away. If you do not look like a local, you cannot go ANYWHERE without someone trying to scam, cheat, or steal. If you are female, you are begging to be harassed and grabbed. The beach was nothing special. I saw more empty soda bottles and Cheetos bags on it than at a junior high school dance. You can find beaches just as nice in Florida. Other parts of the island may have been nicer, STAY AWAY from the Ocean Point Hotel. I would stay away from Tobago as well, but if you must go, find different lodging.

This was a 2 day stay.

  • Liked — The reception on the TV was good enough to see a fuzzy picture.
