“Great hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2008

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Ocean Point Hotel for three days and two nights. Despite all the negative stuff I read on the Internet I decided to go anyway because I was aware that the hotel is now run by new management and I also have some family living in Tobago who informed me that it was a good hotel.

Ocean Point is about 10-15 minutes drive from the Airport and about 15-20 drive to Scarborough (Tobago's capital). We arrived at night when the office was already closed but the friendly security guard was happy to show us to our room. We stayed in the smallest room at the hotel as it was only the two of us. It was equipped with a single bed, stove, basic kitchen utensils, mini fridge, alarm clock, iron and ironing board, a few clothes hangers, a safe, cable TV, hot/cold shower, towels, and a quiet air condition unit.

The housekeeper was a very friendly lady who was willing to help and always asked if we needed anything.

September is a good time to visit Tobago as there aren't much tourists there. There were only two other rooms being occupied while we were there so we had the pool to ourselves for our entire stay.

It was so wonderful waking up in the morning to hear the waves of Little Rockley Bay. This beach is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel but I wouldn't really recommend it for bathing. The most beautiful beach in Tobago is Pigeon Point. You can enter for TT$18/person but the price is well worth its beauty. Store Bay is another beautiful beach but it can be very crowded at times, maybe because it's free. Both these are about 10 minutes drive from Ocean Point.

The restaurant and bar was not open and it doesn't look like it has been opened for a while but because of the central location of the hotel there are many great alternatives for breakfast lunch and dinner or you can simply make your own. I would highly recommend going to Cafe Coco for dinner. It's about 10 minutes drive from Ocean Point and the food, service and ambiance was to die for. I'll write a review for that a bit later.

I must admit that there are a few areas of the hotel that could benefit from a fresh coat of paint and a little cleaning but that deter us from a great vacation. Don't go to Ocean Point expecting a 5 star hotel........if so, then you should try VHL Tobago (formerly Hilton), Coco Reef or the other more expensive hotels on the island.

My boyfriend and I had a great stay and we were sooooo sad to leave, we would definitely visit again but we would also like to try other hotels for our next trip.

P.S Check out my pics!!!!

“No Regrets”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2008

This hotel provided a safe area for tourist who wish to visit Tobago. It is less than five minutes drive to the country,s first mall - Gulf City where you can get food and clothes, a drugstore and an atm. For the price it was not a bad experience and the living quarter was quite comfortable and properly air conditioned. Ask for room five with the king size bed. Dont expect a five star qulity hotel and you wont be dissapointed. The outside needs a facelift but the room is very cosy. The pool was small but very clean and enough for relaxing especially for kids. Its only twenty minutes from srorebay which is a very popular bathing area and you can get a reef tour there also. This hotel is at a strategic location from the port and is near to many bathing and fishing areas but you will need transport to get around. It is not on the beach but near one if you got your own car. There were enough dishes for two or even a family of three and a big stove if you intend to cook your own food. The fridge is a bit too small for meat but good for vegetables and drinks. A toaster oven. toaster, coffeemaker complete with filters are provided for you. Cooking pots were also available for use. You can even get access to a washer and dryer if you want to keep your laundry clean. .. carry soap and laundry detergent. There is a security guard and a friendly maid to clean the place every morning. You cant expect much more for having a peace of mind at the cost.Id say not too bad a place. I,d recommend it if you cant afford the hilton tobago or some other expensive hotel.

Well....i\\I read all the good reviews about this hotel and decided to give it a shot. To begin with it is not opposite to tobagio Hilton..it is a little way off...the bach that is close by is dirty and the hotel itslef looks shabby. I noone has really visited therein
a while. The phots on the website were misleading. I went with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary and we were appauled at the conditions. WE wer supposed to stay for 5 nights but moved on the second day to anothe rplace which was ALOT better. Nothing about this
palce is nice...it is out of reach you really have to use their cab services if you want to move about and they have to call a cab. The restaurant was NEVER open for the 2 nights we were there and no maid came to our rooms as said. The microwave was small an dirty and please note they are only availabel in the attic stud

“Our stay @ ocean point”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2007

We also read some of the negative reviews on Ocean Point Hotel but we decided to go anyway. We weren't disappointed.
On our arrival we received arranged transport to carry us to the hotel. We were greeted with a warm & friendly manager who made us feel at home.
Our room was poolside which was cozy & clean with a well equipped kitchen.
The Restaurants meals were excellent & were served by very pleasant & jovial cook, who encouraged any special requests & pleasant conversation.
In my opinion it's a wonderful hotel for young couples or those who wish to get away from it all.

“Great value for your money at Ocean Point”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2007

We decided to book at Ocean Point because the price was in our lower budget and because of the excellent customer service when booking our stay. However, after reading some of the other terrible reviews about this hotel, we almost considered not showing up and immediately going to another hotel. But we decided to check it out since our money could not be refunded for a one night stay. When we arrived, we were immediately surprised. The hotel looked nothing like the pictures on the website or on other travellers' candid photos. It looked more modern and was much better than we expected after reading the reviews. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the new manager Ostra. We were astonished by her friendliness and willingness to help and provide information on things to do since this was our first visit to Tobago. We stayed in the Poolside Studio, which had a nice little private alcove patio with chairs, a table, and a hammock, and was steps away from the pool. The room was clean and had two beds and a little kitchenette to prepare small meals. The fridge was very helpful to keep drinks and food. The room came with cable TV and an airconditioner, although we preferred to keep the windows open to get the nice ocean breeze. The washroom was clean and had hot and cold water. The hotel has a small restaurant run by a friendly woman named Lynnette. She made us feel comfortable like we were at home. The continental breakfast included with the room was a nice touch and great to start off your morning. We enjoyed the hotel so much that we extended our stay. We would definately recommend this hotel for traveller's who want to get the real feel of the country and don't want the glitz and glam of a more expensive hotel. We took a few pictures of the hotel to show a more up-to-date look of the hotel.
