My boyfriend and I stayed at the Ocean Point Hotel for three days and two nights. Despite all the negative stuff I read on the Internet I decided to go anyway because I was aware that the hotel is now run by new management and I also have some family living in Tobago who informed me that it was a good hotel.
Ocean Point is about 10-15 minutes drive from the Airport and about 15-20 drive to Scarborough (Tobago's capital). We arrived at night when the office was already closed but the friendly security guard was happy to show us to our room. We stayed in the smallest room at the hotel as it was only the two of us. It was equipped with a single bed, stove, basic kitchen utensils, mini fridge, alarm clock, iron and ironing board, a few clothes hangers, a safe, cable TV, hot/cold shower, towels, and a quiet air condition unit.
The housekeeper was a very friendly lady who was willing to help and always asked if we needed anything.
September is a good time to visit Tobago as there aren't much tourists there. There were only two other rooms being occupied while we were there so we had the pool to ourselves for our entire stay.
It was so wonderful waking up in the morning to hear the waves of Little Rockley Bay. This beach is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel but I wouldn't really recommend it for bathing. The most beautiful beach in Tobago is Pigeon Point. You can enter for TT$18/person but the price is well worth its beauty. Store Bay is another beautiful beach but it can be very crowded at times, maybe because it's free. Both these are about 10 minutes drive from Ocean Point.
The restaurant and bar was not open and it doesn't look like it has been opened for a while but because of the central location of the hotel there are many great alternatives for breakfast lunch and dinner or you can simply make your own. I would highly recommend going to Cafe Coco for dinner. It's about 10 minutes drive from Ocean Point and the food, service and ambiance was to die for. I'll write a review for that a bit later.
I must admit that there are a few areas of the hotel that could benefit from a fresh coat of paint and a little cleaning but that deter us from a great vacation. Don't go to Ocean Point expecting a 5 star hotel........if so, then you should try VHL Tobago (formerly Hilton), Coco Reef or the other more expensive hotels on the island.
My boyfriend and I had a great stay and we were sooooo sad to leave, we would definitely visit again but we would also like to try other hotels for our next trip.
P.S Check out my pics!!!!
