“Estoril Resort - A Ripp Off”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

As everybody noted the only good thing about this hotel is the location - 5 minutes walk to town and 5 minutes walk to the beautiful beach. The photos on the web and the word resort are totally misleading; It's a couple of buildings in the middle of a building site. We managed to negotiate the room price down quite easily to 25 euros per person. But the woman running it, who was pretty unpleasant refused to acknowledge that she had given us a discount when we checked out so we had to pay the normal rate - or leave her our passports which she had cleverly taken. She was both dishonest and unpleasant.
The room was just OK from a cleaniless point of view but they didn't have enough towels or pillowcases and I think they tried to charge us extra for them. The breakfast was ridiculous - the banana was the only edible part;
And to make matters even worse, there was quite often the smell of drains/sewage in the air, which we could easily have done without

“Felt Right At Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

I have just returned from staying at the Estoril in Sal Rei for 2 weeks & I had a fabulous time! I was travelling alone and although I am very happy with my own company it was a real pleasure to be welcomed into the hotels family so to speak in a very relaxed and kind way. The people here are not gushing and do not put you on a pedestal as a tourist, they are very real and natural and sweet and will give you a much better experience of the island than being in an all inclusive complex where everyone is paid to smile rather than naturally doing so. The room was large and comfortable and kept impeccably clean by the maids everyday & the restaurant does excellent very authentic pizzas and great fish dishes. I genuinely felt I made good friends here, the manager took me on a tour on his quad bike and the guys in the restaurant took me dancing in the local disco & beach party and I learnt a little about how they really live on the island. The hotel is also the most perfectly situated in the whole area, right on the beautiful never ending beach and also 2 minutes walk into the centre of the main town of Sal Rei and the restaurants and shops. If you want to actually experience the island and it's people this is the place to stay.

Estoril beach hotel is located just 500 m from the lovely beach. It is divided into two, a hotel and apartments. It has only one bar and restaurant. I do not understand other reviews maybe it was bad before I cant deny that. We booked for 2 days first as we read other reviews before. To our surprise it was totally the opposite, of course the food and everything is not european standard but what people fail to understand is that: Cape verde is still developing thats why there is so many building constructions going on. Ok we preffered staying in the apartment even though we were offered to move to the hotel rooms. we had a large apartment, it was serviced almost every day. There is no much of restaurant or bar choices in Boa vista. We made ourself at home and cooked twice in our apartment and due to the fact that we like the place, we extended with 5 more days to complete our 7 day hoilday there. The site manager Carlo (Italiano) was very friendly and tried to help us with lots of tips about the area. The staff were overal friendly eventhough there was language barrier. The restaurant manager Gezwine(pardon me if i mis-spelt her name) , was amazing she kept an eye on everything around dinner. If i ever go back to cape verde i will stay at the same place.

Room Tip: Just ask for an apartment since there was more space.

“Clean and friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

I can not understand the other comments...... I have just been there with a friend and the Hotelmanager was very friendly !!! Our Appartement was clean and we had a large sun-terrasse with nice view. Of course they are building a lot in Sal Rei and the food is not European Standard. But nevertheless we had a great holiday in this Hotel!

“Poor Value and Service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2010

Estoril Beach Resort is in a good location just 5 minutes walk to the beach and small town of Sal Rei. Unfortunately that is where the benefits end.

For the quality of service and rooms I cannot see how they can justify charging prices that are on par with higher standard accommodation throughout Europe (€60 per night).

The double room was very basic with two singles put together, a fan and grotty bathroom. We were without hot water for 3 days during our week stay, with no alternative given for showering. Towels were not changed at all during the stay.

The staff are a mixed bunch, with some extremely friendly and some seeming like being there was the last thing they wanted to be doing. We had a day wasted when an island tour was cancelled and reception did not pass on the message the day before.

The restaurant was ok, but there are some better options in the area and they are all similarly priced.

Overall, the location was fine but I would look at other options as this hotel does not justify the prices being charged.
