Lethem is a town of just 2,500 deep in the wilds of Guyana. The Savannah Inn offers decent comfort in a difficult place. Highlights were definitely the meals, cooked by Shawn and his crew. And that the Savannah Inn is the destination for any VIPs who pass through Lethem. We had breakfast one morning with the president's men, which was intriguing.
The lowlight for me was that the room, particularly the shower, didn't seem clean. Still, it had A/C, which is rare in this neck of the woods. Internet wasn't working, which was disappointing in the extreme. We had to walk down the street to Takatu Inn, where we had to pay an hourly fee. Shawn also had an affection for music, which he liked to blast from a large amplifier to "entertain the guests," which was less than entertaining for me when I was trying to nap mid-afternoon after a sleepless 3-day journey to get there.
Still, I would say the Savannah Inn is the best you're going to do in Lethem (Takatu Inn looked decent as well), and owners Alfred and Linda are extremely nice, as is Shawn and his crew.
