We've just returned a week ago from Cocobay and had a great relaxing week! I say relaxing because it is a very quiet place (limited evening entertainment, bar closes before 11pm, and there are only a small number of cottages). This totally suited us as we just wanted a week together where we could relax from work and not have to worry about anything other than meal times :).
Meals:
Breakfast was always good, a nice selection of cooked english, fruit and continental, with tea/coffee/juice.
Lunch was a bit more hit and miss with slightly fewer options, generally a fish or meat option with salad. But still good food, and there was also desert after lunch.
Mid afternoon there are sandwiches and cakes.
Dinner was great, always a great choice, with very flexible staff going out of their way to make sure you enjoyed the meal. One night we ate at Sheer (you have to pay a supplement), and both had steak which was really nice. Its a shame it doesnt open earlier than 7pm as it would be a perfect location before the sun sets. Only thing to watch is that you will get charged for all drinks here which came as a bit of a shock to us.
Rooms -
The rooms were nice as described 'rustic'. Even though during the night they cooled down a bit, air con would have been nice, especially for during the day. We never spent much time in the room during the day but even the 5 minutes to get changed or picked something up were quite unbearable. They were fine if you just wanted them as a place to sleep at night though - comfortable beds with mosquito net.
The resort was lovely with an amazing view from the pool/bar/restaurants. The main beach could have been a bit neater, as could security up to resort from this beach. There is a gate and hedge, but we had expected a little more, especially as these two beaches are 'local beaches' which had a party whilst we stayed.
The beach on the other side which is private was lovely - a far better breeze and very picturesque, however it was tiny. Plenty of space to sunbathe on the loungers on the grass, but the sand itself was more-or-less non existant, we did chose this beach quite a bit though as its quieter and cooler.
We did a couple of activities - the treasure island sailing around the island, which wasn't great. It was lovely to see the island and to sail, but the snorkelling was worse than disappointing, and the lunch wasnt great compared to the Virgn boat that was moared beside us for lunch with a full BBQ going.
Shirley heights was great, we were gutted we had to leave at 8pm on the hotel taxi, if we went again would sort a later one.
We also booked horseriding through the reception. This was good as you can ride on two beaches in Antigua and they take you to both.
Also - although internet is charges at 50cent a minute, you can pick up the wifi in reception for free if you have a laptop/phone.
And one final point, everything seems to be charged in US dollars. We got ECD and ended up just having to translate the prices so would recommend just getting US.
All in all a great holiday, not top class luxury, but peaceful and relaxing, with good food, great staff and unbelievable views!
