“Fabulous!”

We are just back from 5 nights at Cocobay. We enjoyed every minute! The location is beautiful and the resort is quiet and laid back, which was exactly what we were looking for. The staff are wonderful. Melissa, the Concierge, was great. She seems to always have a handle on everything! Cicily made us feel like family! She is so genuine and sweet. O'Neal, the manager, was always available, though we certainly didn't have a single issue. Our room was gorgeous, romantic and clean. We had an ocean front room. Which I would recommend. Even if the plunge pool is a bit cool, which didn't stop my fiance from using it daily, the view is totally worth it. We enjoyed the food very much. Sonia, who cooks at breakfast and lunch is terrific and just a delight. The drinks were very tasty.
It is not a 5 star resort. It isn't meant to be. It's like a boutique hotel. It's quiet and quaint. I'll take it over a "Sandels" anytime! The folks at "Sandels" wouldn't have known my name and most of the staff at this resort made it a point to know it.
Now...for the bugs. There are bugs. Not in the cottage, of course. But, I was bitten a fair amount. My fiance, not at all. (I must be sweeter than he!) I wore no perfume, unscented sunscreen and bug spray. None of it seemed to deter them. And a little hint, none of the topical treatments seemed to help. Benedryl, orally, is the only thing that stops the itch. Luckly, it's very effective. I get bitten all the time in the summer at our house on the Chesapeake Bay, as well. Anytime you have water, warmth, and woods, you will have bugs. Cocobay sprayed while we were there. There is only so much they can do. It's worth it.
We will be heading back to there ASAP!

Room Tip: The oceanfront cottage is amazing!

“most peaceful holiday we've had....!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

The hotel is lovely.... the staff are excellent, the food was excellent, the room was lovely... we couldn't fault anything as such....!! We had more rain than we expected, which meant the rooms being cottages meant that you heard the rain and the wind, and we also had some sort of animal on the roof making noises.... so even though the cottages are lovely, you do feel that you are one with nature! therefore luckily all we were having to do during the day is sleep!! the insect bites were a problem, all the insect repellant we bought from home made no difference! buy the stuff in the shop in the hotel, or if you get bitten rub in gin and lime, we heard that made a difference. The sand flies are the problem and in the end we stayed by the pool which helped. The hotel was so relaxing, I think one of the main reasons was the lack of children and with 2 pools and a beach, you never had a problem to find somewhere to go! We had no hot water one night, and as soon I told the hotel they were on it and fixed by the next day. We used the courtsey room without a problem, you have to book it on the day of departure, quite a strange set up - a hut with a shower that is looking out to sea!! but perfect for what you need! all in all a great place, had we had no rain and no bugs then it would have been perfect! We had a standard room which had a ceiling fan, we really didn't need air con and most nights turned off the ceiling fan!

Room Tip: Ask for a room near to reception, we had room 42 and we were right at the other end of the resort, s...

“Stunning!”

Cocobay Resort is located on a beautiful piece of property with gorgeous panoramic views. I would doubt that there is a lovelier place on the island. The service was excellent from check in to check out and really placed Cocobay apart from other hotels we have visited. The staff was very attentive and wanted to ensure that you were happy and having a good time. The manager O'Neal was very visible and wanted to know that you were well taken care of. The concierge Melissa was the sweetest woman I have met on a hotel staff hands down. The food was okay but seeing as we haven't stayed at any other all-inclusive resorts, we don't really have much to compare it to. It was definitely "middle of the road" in my opinion (but I am a little picky). I did like that dinner was a la carte as I am not a big fan of buffets. I also liked that you could get a sandwich from the pool bar at lunch! There is a restaurant located on the Cocobay property called Sheer Rocks. We had dinner and drinks there on our last night and it is not to be missed (even though it is not part of the all inclusive plan). We had a seafront cottage with a plunge pool and it was definitely one of the best locations on the property, right on the water's edge. Our plunge pool was a bit cold because it didn't receive much sunlight but that didn't stop my husband from enjoying it. The room was nicely appointed and clean. I have read other reviewers' complaints about bugs but we did not find it a problem. You are in a tropical location with mild temperatures year around...you can expect bugs. We brought bug spray and never even opened it. I went with very moderate expectations and they were exceeded. The is not a five star hotel or restaurant and does not claim to be one. It is however a gem on the island of Antigua and the Cocobay staff and management make this hotel shine.

“Beautiful”

Cocobay is in a wonderful location! It is stunning.

The staff are lovely - particularly jermaine who works in the restaurant.

Reception were not very helpful regarding the courtesy room at the end of the week. (don't offer a courtesy room to everyone if not everyone can use it). Everyone else was so lovely and helpful though.

I can't believe people would complain about the food - it is delicious. The portion sizes are generous (perhaps too small for some Americans, but it might do them some good to eat like the rest of the world for a change ;) ) that's just a joke folks! Come on - it is funny!

We had a wonderful time.

“2nd time round - and even better than the 1st!”

We have just returned from our second visit to Cocobay and we are already planning our third. It is a little piece of paradise where nothing is too much trouble. They have infact raised their game since the last time we were there (although they really didn't need to!) and we had the addition of a new pool, and a new staff member bringing drinks down to the beach all day - which was a lovely touch. O'Neal, the manager was also a lot more visible this time around - not that we had anything to say to him apart from how much of a wonderful time we were having! As I said in my previous review - if you want an all singing all dancing resort, with hundreds of guests, marble floors, buffet dinners, karaoke and wristbands the don't bother with Cocobay - Jolly Beach is the place for you. If you want peace, tranquility, rustic cottages, staff who know your name, and to fall in love with your other half all over again then give Cocobay a go - the only thing you'll regret is having to budget for it for years to come!
