“Unbelievable!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

My wife and I were lucky enough to stay here for two days. It was part of a Christmas bonus from my employer who frequents the Bei Schumann during his business trips to Germany. We saw the pictures and the website but there is nothing like experiencing this place first hand.
As a spa, it was first rate. The Bei Schumann has a stainless steel lined outdoor pool, a 24-hour heated indoor pool, 12 different saunas, around 8 different types of mineral water that flow continually through two areas of the building, exercise facilities and experienced massage therapists.
As a restaurant, there are several choices and each one is great. There is a salad buffet-style restaurant for the day spa users, a luxury sit-down restaurant for guests in the evening, a cook-to-order bistro and a breakfast buffet that offers everything imaginable. We were fortunate enough to experience each one and there are no words to describe the quality and magnitude of the cuisine.
As a hotel, it can only be described as five-star. The rooms are luxurious, large and nothing is left to the imagination. Germany is the most organized country I have ever experienced and the Bei Schumann is a perfect example of this. Everything has been well thought out in advance. One is left wanting nothing.
The staff for the most part are warm and friendly. The Bei Schumann is a large facility and the staff have a lot of activity to monitor. The place can get quite busy and there are a lot of needs to be met. A few speak English but we found our limited German came in quite handy in making our way about the place.
Honestly, the place was over the top but it was cool to experience. My wife had just gotten over chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer and our stay here could not have come at a better time. Our massage therapist, Anil Maskey, provided the highlight of our stay. We have never experienced someone as skilled and kind at his craft. We left there in a lot better frame of mind and body than when we came. He helped make the rest of our stay in Germany and the Czech Republic a relaxing experience.

“Ab Fab”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Although I stayed at the hotel for New Years Eve 2010/2011 and have been raving about it since, I have only just had the time to write a review. I could not fault this place! Everyone was VERY accommodating, friendly and exceptionally helpful. I have a lactose and wheat allergy and - for the first time anywhere - that was not a problem. The staff actually looked out for me when I ordered food and told me right from the start what I would be able to enjoy and what not. Further they would make suggestions to changing some of the ingredients of the meals in order for me to have them. I arrived completly exhausted (the hotel having sorted transfer from/to Dresden airport) and left after 1 week refreshed. Having said that, I never bothered or wanted to leave the hotel in the meantime except for wonderful walks in the snow. Simply heaven!!!!!! The fact that my other half couldn't decide or get organised as to whether he was coming was not a problem either.

“A wonderful spa experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2010

We wanted to spend two days in a wellness hotel somewhere between Berlin and Frankfurt relaxing in a pool and saunas. The wellness hotel network website took us to Bei Schumann to the east of Dresden, which we had wanted to visit some time. The last minute pricing was fantastic so a day later we arrived.
We had booked one of the larger suites and were allocated the 'moon suite'. It was huge and gorgeous. The lounge area is all the area behind the curved windows in the photo of the pool, with the bathroom window to the right. The fireplace in the centre of the room was a real one - such a pity it was early summer because an open fireplace is such a temptation. It's above a fireplace which I think measures a couple of metres across that was in a relaxation zone in the spa area on the floor below. The bedroom was in a romantic alcove behind the fireplace. The dining table sat six.
The hotel comprises a late C19 building, which now mostly houses the public facilities such as restaurants and bars, adjoining a recent, cylindrical extension where most of the rooms and the spa facilities are located.
Kirschau is a proper spa town. The local area produces spa drinking water as well. The hotel offers 12 saunas and we sampled all the ones that were available (some were in use for individual therapies). The variety was part of the pleasure. There was an indoor icy plunge pool in one of the unclad zones and an outdoor plunge pool as well. Plus swirl pools.
The rooms in the new part of the hotel are arranged in two upper levels around a core, the centre of which is a pool that's open around the clock. It's surrounded by canopied double lounge beds. Above rises a roof mimicking the Pantheon in Rome. Another pool is indoor/outdoor, surrounded by sun lounges, where we indulged in lying around, reading and enjoying a glass of wine.
There are several dining options: our choices moved from a simple, tasty, inexpensive buffet salad the first night to the excellent regional Saxon menu in the best of the hotel's restaurants the next night.
Dresden is a beautiful city and the old master gallery lived up to our expectations. But it's about an hour's drive and even more by bus and train, so it would be better to stop there before or after rather than during a stay at Bei Schumann, to maximise your time in the hotel and the surrounding area. The town of Bautzen that to the north (where one comes off the autobahn that runs east from Dresden into Poland) is very pretty for a short walk and we hear that hiking in the area is good.
