“It was a dream!”

17 adults and 5 children ages 1-64 all headed over to Tuscany for the experience of Villa Ricrio. When I first set foot in the place, I was gobsmacked and couldn't believe the absolute beauty and grandeur of this magnificent villa. Pictures do not come close to how amazing the house (although "castle" is what the children referred to it) is. It is so large you never felt on top of one another, and the views. The views are absolutely spectacular. The staff are TOP NOTCH and accommodating with any needs you might have. The Chef Gioglia makes the most amazing Lasagna and Tiramisu...we brought her in Sunday night to cook for us.

The villa is only 45 mins south of Pisa and a very easy run to the airport. The tiny town of Guardistallo is but a few minutes away, and so lovely and charming. In Casalle Marritimo right up the road, is the BEST restaurant I have ever eaten at, Le Volte. The Wild Boar is to die for...never did I think I would eat it, but so grateful I did. It is a gem and a magical experience.

If you decide to rent bikes, be aware, it is nestled in between STEEP hills. Not for the faint at heart. Cars are a definite necessity as well. There is PLENTY of parking there.

We visited Cinque-Terre, Florence, Rome, Volterra, Sienna just to name a few. Perfect position to see the Tuscan landscape. JUST BOOK IT! Take the chance and go have the best vacation of your life!

“What a wonderful place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2008

We held a family vacation of 10 family members at this villa. Here it is 2 years later and the entire family still talks about this wonderful vacation!

The villa is a wonderfully very-old yet modern home. Lots of large rooms and space. The owners were absolutely wonderful!

One of the really great things is that it is centrally located so that you are an easy day trip to almost anything in the Umbria and Tuscany regions. You will want to rent a car of course - but do not fear it, we all had no real problems with 4 seperate cars in the family. I personally drove all over Italy (about 1500 miles) during the 2+ weeks we there. We rented a car in Rome and drove up to the villa. It does get a little interesting in the cities, like Florence - just make sure you have someone reading signs and giving directions while the driver focuses on driving.

We actually dream of someday being able to return to this villa.

  • Liked — The Owners and Location
  • Disliked — Noise can get loud inside (bnot from external) like doors banging in the wind really echos through this old house. But that is really part of the charm once you get over the first time it happens at midnight!
