We loved this hotel! Amazing views, brilliant food (breakfast buffet was impressive!) and friendly, helpful staff.
Modern, stylish rooms with a jacuzzi on the large balcony. You need to get up early to get one of the comfy pool side beds however, they get snapped up pretty quickly. The hotel is on a very steep hill so I wouldn't recommend to the less-able, but you can request for the hotel to send up a little golf type buggy to take you.
Hire a moped and explore the island, one of the best things we did! Lots of nice places in Bophut and Chaweng to eat and drink. I would recommend and return ASAP!

Wow - an amazing hotel. My husband and I spent two weeks here on our honeymoon. An absolutely beautiful place with a happy feel. The staff are fantastic here, so friendly and willing. They will try their best to meet any request. For example on the last night of our stay we asked to plant a tree of love (normally 24 hours notice needed). They managed to arrange this in less than 30 minutes (with pink gardening equipment :) )and the staff member who helped us to plant was so friendly and took so many photos of us so that we could have the memories. Additionally, we wanted to have a meal on our balcony on the last night so the staff provided us with a table and chairs and even a candle - so sweet!!
The rooms are spacious and comfortable - with huge beds - and my husband was in awe of the film collection. The hills around the resort are steep but were actually quite welcome exercise after the indulging at breakfast - banana pancakes are sooo good. The shuttles provided are regular. My husband and I ate out most nights as we wanted to experience the island - however, when we did stay at the hotel (last night) the two barmen serving us cocktails were fantastic and so much fun. The hotel prices are expensive (similar to prices at home in UK) however it is a 5* complex and there are free shuttles to go to less expensive places.
We loved it here and can't wait to come back to see how well our tree is doing. We wanted our honeymoon to be special and a trip of a lifetime and this certainly was. We know we will compare our future holidays to Mantra and we doubt we will ever beat it. Thank you Mantra for such a perfect honeymoon.

I would have given this hotel five stars except for the following reasons:
- Front desk service: While they are really friendly, they were unable to suggest places to have meals or comment on the restaurants I asked about. The basic response was, "I do not eat there so I do not know."! I was quite shocked and upset by that. This was our first trip to Koh Samui so we were looking for a bit of guidance. None was found at the front desk.

- Location: The hotel is located at a top of a hill and walking down is close to impossible with found children. You had to rely on cabs or the hotel shuttle.

Other than the 2 above, I would have to say that our stay was pleasant. We had several meals at their restaurant, Ubuntu, and we were not disappointed. The prices were fair I thought. The service crew everywhere else was extremely friendly and helpful. The gym is equipped with state-of the art equipment and the yoga class was pleasant. The spa services were good. - Basic offerings.

The rooms are very nicely decorated and were clean. We were in the Cozy room and there was plenty of space for a family with 2 young kids. The view from our room was absolutely gorgeous. If you do intend to stay here, wake up one morning for the sunrise. It is breathtaking!

Overall, we enjoyed ourselves at Mantra.

Dear Sue Duncan,

Thank you for your kind and detailed review.

I am glad that you had a pleasant stay with us and found our COZY Suites to be spacious - we created them with small families in mind:)

I was very sorry and surprised to read that our colleagues at the restaurant could not suggest a restaurant for you. They are quite knowledgeable about local and international restaurants so I will definitely find out why this has happened. Please accept my apologies.
I was very happy to read that you enjoyed waking up to our views! Robert

This is an absolutely fantastic hotel. Our family party (7 people, 4 rooms) stayed here for 1 week in August 2012 and had a very nice stay. The hotel is set high up on the hillside (15-20 minute walk to the main road) and the views from all the rooms (as well as the swimming pool) are fantastic - so beautiful. The paths around the site are very steep. The hotel does continuously run little battery-powered cars around (which often run out of charge!) but I generally walked everywhere and I am in my mid-fifties. However if you are old or infirm you might find it a little difficult. (Actually there were some young obese couples staying who must have found it a bit tiring). There was a small cinema where you could book and chose a film from the internet to watch (we saw "Life of Brian" one evening) and a very nice gym. The rooms were fantastic and included a pc with a large screen that also doubled as the television. Phone calls to anywhere were free.
The culinery highlight of the day was breakfast which was like a meal at a top restaurant. For the evening meal we tended to eat out. Actually my only minor complaint is that the prices at the hotel were a bit high. A bottle of Thai beer cost maybe 0.80 pounds in the local shop, 1.10 pounds in a beach bar, 2.00 pounds in our previous top quality hotel (based on the beach) and 3.40 pounds in the Mantra. Consequently we ate out in the evenings. The hotel ran shuttle buses to the local centres but the taxis were quite cheap. The best place locally was the misnamed "Fishermans Village" (unlike any village I have ever seen and no fisherman) which was about a 5 pound taxi ride if you missed the shuttle. This was a very pleasant stretch of shops and restaurants. We probably won't go to Koh Samui again as it is only a relatively small island but it is great for a 2-week holiday - elephant rides, boat trips and a dead monk in a glass case wearing Ray-bans (I kid you not). The weather was hot and sunny although bizarrely the BBC weather forecast predicted rain most days. All lies. If you do go to Koh Samui, I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We just spent 7 days at this amazing resort. Everything was perfect. We had rental car so it suited us perfectly. Yes the hills are steep- great for a little exercise. Yes the road is bumpy and dusty but this is all part of samui charm that I love. Dont ever change. Perfect stay 10 out of 10

Only issue was some rude guests saved sun loungers early in the morning then dont turn up until hours later. So other guest cant enjoy. A policy on a unoccupied lounger of more than an hour, the towel should be removed so other guest can enjoy.

Dear Furries,

It was great very nice to read that you find Mantra fantastic and that you appreciate the "Samui Charm"

I am sorry about the rude Guests. We have placed notices around the pool asking Guests to be kind to each other and not reserve the loungers for hours (if they are not using them). I will talk to my colleagues in the morning meeting tomorrow and ask them to monitor the situation m ore closely. Thank you for letting me know!

We are looking forward to have you back! You need not to worry, while we are obtaining the necessary papers to make the road better, the atmosphere of Mantra will never change!

Thank you for your review! Robert
