If effort to make you welcome was marked, then this would come 2nd...2nd that is only to the excellent 1st class food that we enjoyed all weekend.
We arrived, the 4 of us, (me, wife, mother in law and father in law)....a little earlier than expected, it didn't matter as we got straight into the local beer & fish and chips with home made tartar sauce...exellent, crispy and baking hot!
After a swaning around Ludlow (only 10 mins in car) whistled back to watch England beat France and unpacked our overnight things. Our room was a good size, large bed with fresh white 'high cotton' content linen with ensuite which was squeaky clean...all very acceptable.
Dinner...the place was full (had turned away 35 covers!!) and had friends join us. Starters were tasty, hot and full of flavour, I had the sweet chilli tiger prawns..(roughly 6) excellent sauce...mopped up with crispy crunchy fresh baked bread...then the signature Beef Wellington dish which was cooked to perfection (MR), served plated and with some veg in jus...then another two plates of fresh vegtables arrived followed by two choices of potatoes....Deserts were a masterpiece and a good size, the cheese board look great.. ....We all agreed the wine list could be greater but the Sancerre and Macon was very good. The prices were not OTT.
Breakfast was hearty, hot and delicious... and served with plenty of choice, including fresh crossants (easy for a French chef, surely) and a good size.
They seem to have gone for a 'good quality bistro pub / restaurant' and have got it right!!
All works well, staff seem happy and they do themselves proud...(& and we eat at Heston's places & Roux's alot, living in Windsor)...They are only nine months in, and still putting quality before quantity, when it come to covers!!...and that makes a pleasnt change....You must try it out...if you can get i , it's well worth booking ahead, you'll love it!Good luck and see you all again...RH
