“Very Good, All round success! And a Real French Chef!”

If effort to make you welcome was marked, then this would come 2nd...2nd that is only to the excellent 1st class food that we enjoyed all weekend.
We arrived, the 4 of us, (me, wife, mother in law and father in law)....a little earlier than expected, it didn't matter as we got straight into the local beer & fish and chips with home made tartar sauce...exellent, crispy and baking hot!
After a swaning around Ludlow (only 10 mins in car) whistled back to watch England beat France and unpacked our overnight things. Our room was a good size, large bed with fresh white 'high cotton' content linen with ensuite which was squeaky clean...all very acceptable.
Dinner...the place was full (had turned away 35 covers!!) and had friends join us. Starters were tasty, hot and full of flavour, I had the sweet chilli tiger prawns..(roughly 6) excellent sauce...mopped up with crispy crunchy fresh baked bread...then the signature Beef Wellington dish which was cooked to perfection (MR), served plated and with some veg in jus...then another two plates of fresh vegtables arrived followed by two choices of potatoes....Deserts were a masterpiece and a good size, the cheese board look great.. ....We all agreed the wine list could be greater but the Sancerre and Macon was very good. The prices were not OTT.
Breakfast was hearty, hot and delicious... and served with plenty of choice, including fresh crossants (easy for a French chef, surely) and a good size.
They seem to have gone for a 'good quality bistro pub / restaurant' and have got it right!!
All works well, staff seem happy and they do themselves proud...(& and we eat at Heston's places & Roux's alot, living in Windsor)...They are only nine months in, and still putting quality before quantity, when it come to covers!!...and that makes a pleasnt change....You must try it out...if you can get i , it's well worth booking ahead, you'll love it!Good luck and see you all again...RH

“Safe but bland”

The restaurant will appeal to unadventurous nay staid diners who seek food which has not been "mucked about". Locals who judge a meal more by the size of the portion on the plate rather than by its level of inventiveness
Dishes highlight the dilemma of pub restaurants with wildly fluctuating levels of trade.. Heavy reliance on bought in frozen portions masquerading as freshly prepared. Vegetables consist of an unnecessarily large plate, oversteamed to perfection.
Prices are too high for this standard of offering.
There will be many however who disagree with this overview!

“Friendly and hospitable with well presented and good food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2010

The purpose of our visit was to celebrate a family birthday and we were not disappointed. We ate in the warm and inviting lounge having been offered a table in front of the log fire. Given the weather outside this was very welcome. Service was attentive and our food arrived promptly. All dishes lived up to our expectations including those ordered for the vegetarian members of our party. It was well presented and all dishes lived up to our expectations. More importantly they were enjoyed by all.

While we had initially been the only people in the lounge, as time progressed we were joined by others whose presence contributed to the positive and convivial feel of The Peacock Inn. As our visit was for the purpose of a family meal I am unable to comment on quality of the bed and breakfast rooms. We will, however, definitely eat there again and recommend it to anyone thinking of doing so.

“The Peacock is back on top form!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

Having tried phoning all day and the number being unobtainable, I called in to find that BT have cut the phones off for non-payment of the line by the previous owners and BT won't re-connect it. This isn't Tracey & Jean's fault so bear with them! They also have no card machine so payment is by cash, cheque or leaving card details for processing later. All that said, GO! [You'll need to drop in to book at the moment mind you]
The Peacock is excellent again, finally. After years of neglect, Tracey & Jean have brought back the pub we all know and love, I can't recommend it highly enough. The food was exquisite and the service superb. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Definitely my restaurant of choice from now on. The Peacock is without question back on dazzling form...

“best place we have stayed for ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

When we arrived at 9 30pm we were welcomed extremely warmly and made to feel we werent just another guest ! Our room was a really good size, clean and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on in hotel accommodation . Excellent hospitality tray with good quality tea, biscuits, proper coffee and fresh milk instead of those horrible milk cartons that most places use. We both slept extremely well. Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice and using top quality local produce. Unfortunately we were unable to book in for dinner because they were fully booked but I am sure the quality would be extremely high and when we next stay we hope to have dinner but I think booking well in advance is advisable. Thank you Jean and Tracy for a great stay.
