My wife and I and family members dined at the Peacock Inn on Christmas Eve 2011 we were staying in a holiday cottage nearby and it was recommended to us by the cottage owner and I only booked the restaurant the day before. What a find we were so lucky to get a table. As soon as I walked in the door to book a table I received a warm welcome from the hostess and her staff.
Christmas Eve was absolutely lovely with a Christmas tree and and open fire in the restaurant helping to give it a very cosy atmosphere indeed. The young staff were very pleasant watched over by the hostess owner. I understand the chef was French and my goodness didn't it show. The meal we had was as good as you would get in any good restaurant anywhere in Britain and at a reasonable cost too. I had scallops for starters followed by slowly cooked lamb (cooked for 12 hours no less) in a rich gravy and it tasted just like bourguignon (again the French influence was evident). I finished off with a crème brulee.
We only live about 70 miles away from this Inn and I'm serious when I say that I would gladly travel down to the Peacock for a meal with friends but then why not make a weekend of it. I believe there are 3 luxury rooms available so you can crash out after a delightful meal and a convivial evening at the Inn. There's lots do in this area and a visit to Ludlow is a must.
