“A peaceful retreat with excellent food outside Fort Portal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

I've stayed here four times over the last 10 years and have always been treated well. A driver will pick you up in Fort Portal and take you to this beautiful location with a view of the Rwenzori Mountains. The innkeeper is also the director of the local NGO called KIDA right down the road. KIDA is an inspiring program worth touring. The lovely meals are prepared by students of KIDA's vocational catering class under the direction of an excellent chef. The cabins are clean with comfortable beds, flush toilets and hot showers. No electricity, but plenty of lanterns and candles. (They use a generator to run lights in the main house.)

“incredibly friendly setup at kitojo tourist home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2009

from the moment we arrived to when we left 3 nights later ,we were looked after superbly by the family and servants, the chefs meal preparation and service was outstanding. the 3 course meals were the best i 'd experienced during my 24 day birding tour of uganda. the position of the home overlooking the valleys below was a wonderful sight. you wake up in your cottage and have views of the sunrise coming up over the far hill. you can spend hours walking the farm and forest trails straight from your seat on the balcony. although i stayed here with a driver/guide i would especially recommend the place to families- a nice safe secure setup. best wishes from chris elmer uk

“Fabulous vibe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2008

I didn't stay on this site as such but volunteered with the projects for a few months.

Not only is KITOJO a fine examplar of self-help and sustainability, the people are incredibly welcoming. You'll be overwhelmed by the drama performances staged by the young people, the dedication of the staff members and the humility of the Reverend who oversees KITOJO.

During your stay, expect great hospitality and a thumbs up experience.

“A Piece of Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2008

My family had the privilege of staying at Kitojo Tourist Home for an extended period of seven weeks from Dec 07 through Jan 08. This was our first time away from Canada, and we have nothing but very high praise indeed, for the hospitality that we received from hosts Rev. Ezra Musobozi and his lovely wife Marjorie, as well as the rest of their family, and the very courteous and professional staff. As you can see from the other reviews here, this tourist home is located amidst some of the most stunning scenery to be found in this part of the world.
Perhaps the best way to give someone a feeling of what it is like to stay at Kitojo Tourist Home is to quote directly from my diary. This excerpt was written the day after our arrival:

"I am at this very moment sitting in a quaint little cottage with a thatched grass roof in the middle of a remote region of Western Uganda, listening to red-tailed monkeys chattering, little children singing and a thousand different varieties of birds singing. This lovely cottage is one of three guest cabins belonging to Rev. Ezra and Marjorie Musobozi. We have never seen a more beautiful place in our entire lives, which is quite a statement, as we have seen some very scenic locations, such as British Columbia and Newfoundland, but nothing can compare to what we have right here on our doorstep in Kitojo. Rev. Ezra’s guest home is situated at the top of a large hill, with a 360 degree panorama of the surrounding countryside, overlooking banana plantations, forest, and the magnificent Rwenzori Mountains, the largest mountain range in all of Africa.
Upon our arrival, our hosts prepared a feast for us, consisting of toast with mushrooms/mushroom sauce, chicken, rice, peas and carrots, and apple cake… Delicious! While we were eating (all meals are taken outside on the veranda) we could here African drums off in the distance.
Yesterday we awoke to the sounds of dozens of red-tailed monkeys jumping on the metal roof of the main house. While sitting on our little deck at the front of our cottage, we can watch the playful monkeys alternately sitting and watching us with curiosity, and jumping from limb to limb. We have taken many photos and video of them.
This morning, we had breakfast on the veranda, consisting of huge slices of pineapple, a common type of banana grown here, that tastes so much better than back home (they are very small, about 3 inches long!) watermelon, scrambles eggs on toast with beans, passionfruit juice, African tea, and toast with jam. The minute we finished this feast, they asked us what we wished to have for lunch!! Ugandans love to eat! We said we will wait until suppertime for our next meal. Supper will be served at 8PM outside by candle light. Yesterday we had fish with coconut sauce, cauliflower, carrots and fried bananas with cream for desert. The scenery, the cuisine, and especially the wonderfully warm people make this such a wonderful place to visit."

We are already looking forward to our next trip to Uganda, and of course, we will be staying at Kitojo Tourist Home, which I highly recommend to anyone planning to travel to this part of the world.

“Kome to Kitojo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2008

In 2007, I was fortunate enough to travel to the outlying village of Kitojo in Uganda, Eastern Africa. I traveled to Uganda to volunteer with a group of committed individuals from varying backgrounds. Our team was welcomed unconditionally, with traditional dances, cheers, big smiles, waves, and kind words. Living in Kitojo, working with the local residents, and meeting villagers of all ages made me feel comfortable and happy to be a part of a community with such a rich culture. Not only were the people wonderfully generous and interesting to spend time with, but the lush landscape, beautiful weather, and unique wildlife made for an amazing trip.
