We stayed here when in the area for a family celebration. Howwood Inn is (we were told) the oldest pub in the area, and has lots of character. Although they didn't seem to be expecting us (we had booked by phone in advance) we were made very welcome. The accomodation certainly isn't 5 star, but comfortable and spacious; and very well priced. Only criticism would be that our room could have done with a wee vacuum - but as they weren't expecting us.....The freshly cooked breakfast (and there was no pressure to check out early) was fantastic. The dining room/restaurant was really interesting - great tables and chairs! The menu for evening meals looked great and very tempting - we wouldn't hesitate to sample the restaurant another day!
This is a nice wee family pub (although it's quite busy with locals until late at night) , which doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. The owners are very friendly and accomodating. If you are looking for a comfortable room, without frills and a fancy price tag, and good fresh food, then I'd recommend the Howwood Inn.
