Stayed here many times great atmosphere lovely family run service, quiet pub, accomadation great never felt more welcome.

We were kept waiting for keys to the rooms. One room wasn't ready even though we arrived in the evening. The upstairs room door was stuck and didn't lock properly - I was told " brute force" was needed. The room looked quite nice but the bed was damp and there was mould in the bathroom. The portable room heater (the only form of heating) didn't work and so I had to go to bed fully dressed. The towels didn't seem to be very clean and there was no bath mat. We were in a first floor room and there was no water pressure for the shower - only a trickle of water only which was too cold to shower in.

In the hallway downstairs there was electric wiring exposed as well as mould and damp.

We had a good evening meal and the portions were generous but because of the condition of the sleeping accommodation it left us wondering what the condition of the kitchen was like and if we would suffer stomach problems later.

Last resort hotel!

If you do go I recommend you take your own towels, bedding, cleaning kit and a hot water bottle.

oh dear .. we were shown to our room which they had only just cleaned ( at 6.30 in the evening ? ) floor was wet with bleach .. and so were the valances, that trailed in it...and the celings had more black cob webs than in a haunted castle , the light pull in the bathroom was filthy .. so we asked to change rooms ...but told there was only one other room available ..opposite the room we were in .There were two of us, and the room had 5 single beds in .. ahh this should be ok we thought .. we turned down the covers and found every single bed had marked sheets ..and they felt damp .The towels were damp too and .. yes I wasnt mistaken one smelled of mens aftershave .. though it did smell better than the room , we didnt fancy second hand towells . In the corridor water was leaking from another room ( ??) towards the room we should have stayed in ..... mould and damp overhead on the corridor ceiling... and electric cable from a broken patch of plaster .This may be an excellent venue for fishing , but the accomodation had more damp than the ponds that surrounded it .. staff seemed very stressed and were obviously aware of the problems ..but had no solutions .. we did have a reasonable meal in the restaurant ... but we didnt stay another night as planned !!

Went on a Thursday evening for a beer and an evening meal. My main course was a broccoli and potato bake. The broccoli was a head, not cut up or cooked very well as still hard. The sauce was just cream (no seasonings) with a layer of cheese on top - comical but not what I would call cooking! Husband's burger was overcooked and poor quality meat.

The pub dog tried to hang about under our table and the dog smelt of sewage, no exaggeration, so we had to keep shooing him away.

I had stomach cramps that night and most of the next day.

Would not recommend this pub to anyone and could make vulnerable/young very ill.
