Hotel Esperanza is exactly as depicted on its website. It is a boutique hotel, which offers individual personal attention to its patrons. Part of the ‘boutique’ image is the coziness of the rooms and they are designed to provide a homey feel and not expansive areas of the large North American designed resort hotels.
I stayed at Hotel Esperanza for three weeks in November 2011 and greatly enjoyed the family atmosphere and personal attention which was afforded me during my stay. I found the facilities exactly as advertised and the service was that which one would expect from a bed-and-breakfast or ‘boutique’ hotel. I would classify the rooms as appropriate and as advertised on the web site.
When booking my stay at Hotel Esperanza, I was able to find out by calling the hotel that it is located a few minutes walk from the beautiful unspoiled beach and the local zoo (which is focused on conservation of habitat). I also found out that during my stay I would be at the peak of the turtle watch season (not something I would have thought to ask). Once you visit Playa Carrillo you will note that there are no hotels directly on the beach. This location is making every effort to maintain its green space and beautiful beaches so that everyone can enjoy them without destroying any natural habitats.
Yes, the manager is new to Costa Rica and she represents the hotel excellently. She will strike up a conversation with each and every patron (children included) in order to learn their individual preferences, likes and dislikes. She will advise you on what is the standard fare available on the menu while you are staying at the hotel and will also ask if there is anything you would prefer. Every effort will be made to meet your requests. It is your responsibility as a guest to let hour hostess know your preferences.
The dinner menu is Tapas and offers a good variety of choices. Again, if there is something you would prefer speak with Joannie and she will endeavor to provide it. They even cook the fish you may catch on your fishing trip.
When it comes to the amenities offered in this area, since arriving in Playa Carrillo, Joannie has initiated and maintains personal contact with the management of the various facilities and services in this area (as well as some of the Monteverde area) in order to provide her clientele with the best information available. This is an area where your vacation should focus on nature, sport fishing, surfing, swimming and/or conservation; as well as a friendly, diverse group of people.
Costa Rica is offering various housing opportunities and it is the traveler’s responsibility to ensure they are booking at a location that caters to their personal needs and expectations.
In closing, "Way to go Hotel Esperanza – Dennis (owner), Joannie (Manager), Ana (Housekeeper), Xinia (Cook) and Favio (Groundskeeper). Keep up the good work!" I'll be back as soon as I can.
