Just returned from a stay with my family at the Pelangi Beach and have somewhat mixed feelings. On check-in we were upgraded from a pool to beach facing room which was a great start.

The hotel is spread out over a large area so there can be a lot of walking but it does mean you have a lot more space around you than most hotels.

The rooms are really tired now (a large part of the resort is currently being refurbished so hopefully this will be improved significantly). The aircon was so loud that you didn't even hear the planes flying immediately overhead and the quality of furniture is old and poor and the shower was disappointing and almost impossible to set to the required temperature.

The pools are lovely (especially the Cascade pool). The beach at the town end of the resort was really nice but this was the end of the resort being refurbed so quite noisy and very few sunbeds placed here. At the other end of the resort it is a bit scruffy and a long walk to the sea.

Breakfast was fine although often challenging finding a table. The food looked pretty appetising for other meals, but the pricing compared to other restaurants locally was ridiculously high and as a result there seemed to be very few diners most nights.

The hotel is well placed near Pentai Cenang which does offer a wide range of bars and restaurants although disappointingly few actually on the beach front.

Service overall was excellent with very friendly and helpful staff throughout the resort.

On check-out there was initially a problem processing my card and I was requested to enter my PIN etc a 2nd time. I had concerns at the time but was assured that the 1st attempt had failed. On checking my card statement I see that I have actually been charged twice. I have contacted the hotel for a credit to be processed but am still awaiting a response.

Just returned from Pelangi Beach i can not see what other people who have reveiwed this hotel and complained about service, rooms, location and staff not being freindly in my opinion these people must be deaf daft or just plain ignorant maybe they think they are above there station i could not find any faults what so ever we moved to the Pelangi from the Sheraton this hotel is head and shoulders above the Sheraton we were greeted at the reception entrance by a very polite Malaysian girl who took us straight to reception to check in we checked in and our room was not ready but as we had got there at 10 in the morning i was not surprised as our booking stated check in was at 3pm we went to the pool and went back at 3 room ready we were taken by golf buggy to our room 3504 overlooking the lake the rooms are traditional Malay style chalets perhaps this is why some people think the rooms are dark probably how they are meant to be. Every day where ever we went we were greeted with freindly smiles and greetings from restaurant,reception,cleaners-- everybody all the rooms are being upgraded and should be finished by November one review said the place is a building site well you cant make an omlette without breaking eggs i hope personally that they do not make them too modern and tear the heart out of the place so if you want a hotel in a perfect location right on the beach with freindly staff, traditional accomodation with good food then this is the place to go. Also when we got to the Pelangi from the Sheraton i realised i had left my wifes watch in the safe at the Sheraton the concierge rang the Sheraton and arranged for one of there drivers to go back to the Sheraton and picked it up for me so i could carry on with my holiday undisterbed you will not get better customer service than that.

We stayed over the new year period for 10 nights and having stayed previously we were very disappointed. It is a beautiful resort, well spread out with lovely well maintained grounds even when it is busy doesn't feel crowded. But! The rooms inside and out are quite run down and in desperate need of maintenance and repair. The chalets when we stayed 10 years ago had a charming rustic feel but have been left without routine upkeep and maintenance and are now just feel old & worn. Communication at reception between staff seems non existent as nothing happens without several requests / reminders. We booked a king room with a rollaway for our daughter and were given a triple room with two singles pushed together. After addressing it with reception we were given a new king room as requested but without the rollaway, which after reminding staff at reception at 5pm , was delivered at 10 pm at night. Our table for the compulsory NYE gala dinner was double booked although we had made an early reservation, and we were given a makeshift table under the trees in the dark. Housekeeping was hit and miss and the rooms needed a good scrub. The service staff were excellent, friendly and attentive but the higher up the chain the less service and attention. Any requests at reception were met with the excuse " I'm sorry madam but we are very busy at this time" . Service and facilities are well below the suggested 5 star rating and price per night.
A great location and beautiful grounds but in need of attention especially for the price.

We stayed here during the busy Chinese New Year and I must say the hotel exceeded our expectations. After reading some of the reviews on Tripadvisor, I admit we were a bit apprehensive...but all our fears soon disappeared. We were greeted warmly by at the Concierge and check in was a breeze. We checked into our rooms in 15 minutes.
Hotel faclilties were good - bicycle rentals, beach activities & pool. Service at the restaurant during breakfast was excellent at this super peak period. Breakfast buffet spread was great with lots of variety.

My only complaint of the facilities were the Farm and mini golf - it was run down and not maintained. I don't think you can even use the mini golf course! The Farm has chickens & ducks...that's about it. In fact, that whole area was run down and unsafe looking.

Other than that, the hotel is really lovely and relaxing and you had lots of privacy even though it was full occupancy at the time. Location is fantastic! Walking distance to the shops and restaurants. Ample parking available.

Would definately come here and recommend to others!
