Bad news first: if you are booking this hotel via the Internet, you may not realise it's on the main street. If your room is facing that way you'll need to keep the windows shut, so on a hot summer's night you'll either suffocate or have a sleepless night.
The good news is that this is a spotlessly clean 3-star hotel, family run with friendly staff and a very good, reasonably priced restaurant. This hotel takes pride in offering organic food. The rooms are fairly basic but, as I said, very clean. The hotel is located in the village of Speicher and is well located for trips to St. Gallen (only a few miles away and reachable by tram) or Appenzell. Make sure to visit the abbey library in St. Gallen. The walks around the village offer breathtaking views of rolling hills and alpine peaks (the Säntis is a shortish drive away and can be reached by cable car for great views across the alps).
