“Boxing Day Retreat”

How lovely to arrive at Chestnut Hill on Boxing day and not be disappointed. With two friends who had recently arrived for a visit from the UK, we set off from Melbourne with our two beloved labradors hoping that what we had seen on the website would be what we would find, and it was. After a very warm greeting from Pearl, we were directed to Pandora's Chalet, which didn't disappoint. Breakfast provisions in the fridge, cosy bathrobes in the wardrobe, very clean and welcoming and dog friendly. Acres of land for the dogs to play ball, all fenced, so come the evening we could sit outside with a glass of wine, listen to the birds and watch the sunset. Metung was only 10 minutes drive away and we took Pearl's recommendations and visited Bancroft Bites and Metung Galley (twice) for dinner. Took a boat out for 3 hours on the river, with the dogs, and had a great time just meandering. We're now looking at our diaries to try and determine when we can next visit. Only down side - we didn't get to meet Malcolm, having "heard" so much about him from other visitors. Had a very relaxing time, thankyou. Ceridwen & David, Black Rock, Melbourne

“Relaxing 3 nights break”

Thank you Pearl for a very friendly welcome and delicious blueberry tarts, plus our daily help yourself breakfast. We found the spa cottage very well appointed with quality linen and furnishings and very comfortable for 2. The BBQ was a great asset especially after a day of sightseeing and fishing. Our only setback was no internet in the cottage and a little disappointed with the garden around the cottage. Would be very happy to return and watch the sun set over the river!

“Fantastic stay, excellent quality and service”

We were warmly greeted by Pearl who made us so welcome and provided us with marvellous personalised service. Everything was simply perfect - from the quality of the room, to the view from the beautiful breakfast/tea/dining room. This contrasts to the largely impersonal treatment often experienced at "chain" hotels. The finishing touch (for me) was the free internet connection. Pearl and her husband who run Chestnut Hill Country Retreat really understand customer service and hospitality and provided us with a memorable experience on our Melbourne to Sydney coastal roadtrip. The countryside around Swan Reach and Metung is simply delightful and Pearl recommended Bancroft Bites restaurant in Metung for our evening meal and this too turned out to be delightful too. We would definitely return in the future.

“Very enjoyable, we will return”

Pearl and Malcolm have created an absolute gem of a country retreat.
It has excellent accommodation, with excellent views and very handy to local attractions .

Pearl's breakfast is legendary and Malcolm is so easy to talk to and get local advice

All one can say is this place is a must do, frequently.

Room Tip: ask for river view.

“most peacefull romantic break”

What a lovely place to get away and find that romance again. A small bed and breakfast with very accomodating owners, beautiful views and great breakfast included.

It is a very quiet little area so you do require your own transport, but just the right distance between Bairnsdale/Lakes Entrance etc for it to be peacefull and far enough away, but close enough to be able to go out and enjoy the area.

The rooms are very comfortable, clean and fresh. Slept very well and woke to an amazing view of the metung river.

highly recomend especially for romantic getaways!
