This is a review only of the restaurant. We've visited many times over the past 10 years or so, and the setting and interior remain most delightful. The staff are helpful, professional and courteous. On our last visit though we thought the menu over-elaborate, almost being different for the sake of being different, and execution was variable. One starter was inedible through being over-salted: in all fairness the waiterw as concerned, and we were not charged, reflecting my comment about being courteous and professional. Some dishes were much liked. Maybe a little "return to basics" would be good ? Would we return - yes. Nice restaurants in this area are not exactly abundant.

Hotel Vinuela is stylish, comfortable, friendly, and has a fine location overlooking Lake Vinuela (great for early evening drinks on the terrace, watching the sunset over the lake). The food's excellent, imaginative, & includes several good vegetarian options - not always the case in Andalucia. Service is friendly, portions reasonable, prices not cheap but the food's high quality and worth paying for.
Occasional live music on the terrace in the evenings. Access 200 metres away to the fine lakeside walk (2 hours to below Periana, another 2 round to the yellow restaurant below Los Romanes, on the west side of the lake).

Other reviewers have mentioned the setting which, either by day or by night, is indeed spectacular. The surrounding mountains and white villages form a very pretty backdrop to the lake, whilst the hotel itself has tropical gardens and green lawns sloping down to the lake. There are two swimming pools - a large, possibly Olympic-sized, pool within the front gardens and another, more private, lakeside pool within the rear gardens.

In my opinion the hotel rooms are spacious with luxury bathrooms and terraces which either overlook layers of mountains at the front of the hotel or the lake and other mountains to the rear. We have stayed here a couple of times in room 106 overlooking the lake. On one occasion it was our wedding anniversary and we were able to get a special deal that included the room, dinner and breakfast. Our bathroom was roomy and comfortable, with marble tiles and fittings plus a large bath.

The restaurant has an indoor area with a bistro feel and a large outdoor area overlooking the lake and scenery. We eat here lots. The food has varied over the years according to the chef but is currently A1 with an extensive and interesting menu.

Fantastic views over the lake an mountain. we had a disabled room 107 which overlooked the mountains rather than the lake. No bath but very big modern bathroom, with great walk in shower for 2. No space for storage of toiletries in bathroom. Room was modern, clean and tastefully decorated with twin beds? sofa, writing desk and veranda. Guest pool area was exceptional. Restaurant food was reasonably priced (snack menu for lunch was €6 for a club sandwich and about €40 for a meal for 2 without drinks) although service left a lot to be desired. really slow and often had to ask for menus and eventually get our own. Once the order was actually taken the service was good. The food is really good.
