“Another lovely visit to the Hotel Bandolero”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2010

Was able to escape from the Costa this week, and squeeze in time for a quick 'top-up' of Bandolero 'welcoming'! Lovely drive up the hill, to be met by the lovely welcome we have come to know, from David and Ivan- no longer merely hotel propriotors to us but real friends. Fantastic tapas from Ivan's kitchen as usual and warm enough to sit out on the shady terrace. THe chestnut and chick pea soup, a speciality of Ivan's , is a delight to any palate- do not miss it. And as for the sizzling chilli prawns........
A fantastic bolthole for anyone wanting a quiet refuge from the usual tourist hustle and bustle of the Costas. Rooms are peacefula dn simply but artistically decorated and the pool area isa lovely- pull your own lemon off the tree for your gin and tonic....
Well worth the scenic drive up the mountain.

Yes the road leading into the valley is a bit hair raising, but its all part of the magic. Adorable hotel with excellent hosts set in a charming little village a very pleasent change from the Costa

“quirky & lovely; warm welcome; fantastic food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

The Hotel Bandolero is situated in Juzcar, one of the white villages of the Upper Genal valley in Andalucia.
We just had a marvellous week there, the second time we've visited This time we took two of our grown up children and one of their partners back. Both David and Ivan are extremely helpful and welcoming. (Not obsequious; helpful and welcoming in a straightforward & grown up way) Ivan's food is utterly wonderful ( and don't be put off by the fact that on half board you get what you're given - what you're given will be delicious, original & personal without being irritating and nutritious - better than many of the metropolitan restaurants I've eaten in). Everyone in our group - 23 - 60 - had a great time.
The actual hotel itself is a delight - lovely terraces available from most rooms, a great pool and everything individually and tastefully decorated.
You obviously don't go to Juzcar if you're seeking nightlife & noise, although the week we were there it was the Feria and the younger members of our party got stuck into that.
What you do get, all year round, is tranquillity in a beautiful setting, great walking & a sense of being dropped into an ancient and fascinating culture.
David and Ivan are a mine of information about both the local area and Andulucia more widely.
Thoroughly recommended.

“What an Amazing Hotel and Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

OK, So I might not have stayed in Hotel Bandolero but I really needed to leave a review to thank the owners David and Ivan (Ivon?)

The hotel looked lovely, clean, great pool and rooms with balconies but the main reason for my review is the restaurant...

AMAZING food, great service... In the middle of the mountains in Andalucia, this Hotel and Restaurant are a gem to come across and we went back there a number of times for breakfast and for evening drinks and meal..

I'd recommend this place to anyone.. It's something that you really need to tick off your list and having done..

Thanks Hotel Bandolero....

Paul.

“Worth the detour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2009

Hotel Bandolero is one of those rare gems you're so happy to have made the effort to get to (and never want to leave). Owners David and Ivan treated everyone like extended family and no request was too much for them.

All modern conveniences are here (including high-speed wireless internet and a fab rooftop pool) but what sets this so far apart is the incredible food that Ivan turns out morning, noon and night.
