“I think some reviewers stayed somewhere else”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

Stayed here three times now, each time a delight.
The restaurant staff are professional and friendly, the food and wines excellent, and the cosy, vaulted restaurant itself is very special.
Practise your rusty school French, and it WILL pay dividends.

Yes, some of the bathrooms are a little tired, but it isn't a modern, soulless Raddisson/Holiday Inn/Marriot - the whole place oozes character.
An easy walk along the river from the gem that is Chenonceau, and an easy drive to the other chateaux of the Loire and Cher.

I think one of the rooms we had was no.16, with a small sitting room in one of the turrets and two large windows overlooking the Cher.

“Beautiful grand old chateau. Restaurant: excellent food but poor service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

The hotel was great with beautiful mid-evil turrets. The restaurant was another story. There was one waiter for the entire restaurant of over 40 people. The poor waiter was over worked. He ignored us and only took our order after I said in French, "Sir, I want to eat." It was an excellent 5 course gourmet dinner. It just took too long (from 8pm to 10pm) to serve it. We were leaving at 9 am the next day for a bike tour of the Loire Valley. We returned here at he end of our bike trip and there were 3 waiters in the dining room. The service was much better.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in one of the turrets.

“Romantic, quiet get-a-way ...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

We spent 3 wonderful days in this splendid hideaway for our 25th Wedding Anniversary.
All expectations were met or exceeded...especially at dinner, where reservations seem to be encouraged. The breakfast and noon meal were standard European fare, but considering the locale and general ambiance , whats not to like. Be sure and walk the woodsy trail through the forest early in the morning.Just perfect.

Room Tip: The stairs(winding) are the primary means of access to the upper floors, however an elevator near th...

“French touch of class”

What a beautiful chateau on the Cher River! A medieval building of stone, well maintained and clean rooms with modernised bathrooms. The staff were so helpful and friendly, free Wifi was available, food was so plentiful and of superb quality, waiters were professional and courteous, grounds were neat with groomed gardens, and rural views scenic. Our bicycles were stored undercover before our bike tour commenced. All queries were cheerfully answered and information given freely. This chateau gave us a vision of the good life back in the middle ages when people came to hunt in the nearby forest and to retreat from city life. Excellent!

Room Tip: A suite in the tower across the courtyard is larger and quieter

“Flies breeding in the hundreds, management not really concerned”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Our recent stay at this Chateau was marred by an overwhelming infestation of flies in our bathroom. When we arrived there were 4 or 5 dead flies on our sinks and a couple flying around. , and we noticed a bottled of insect killer. Should have gotten the hint.

when we returned later in the day, hundreds, which we killed with the bug spray, leaving masses of dead flies on the floor, a few buzzing around and a nasty chemical smell. When I gently mentioned this to the front desk, I got a blank look. When I asked for someone to come up and sweep up the carcasses, they were just a tad nicer than snide (certainly no apology or concern) but did have someone clean up. Of course the flies returned the following day. After traveling for many years, I will say this probably the worst customer service I have ever seen.

Room Tip: Look somewhere else
