“Nice hosts but too many issues”

After a week on Nusa Lembongan we headed to Padang Bai on Bali ("is that canoe supposed to be our boat across the open seas" haha thats another story!). While looking at one guesthouse we got chatting to Putu who's family runs the Serangan Inn II up the hill. My wife went and checked the place out and thought it looked like great value with nice views over the town and beach. However looks can be deceiving, what we didnt realise was the noise at night. There are a couple of bars across the street that play to about 11pm or so, however on the first night there was an important religious ceremony happening down the street that went to 5am so sleep was poor. On the second night the bars across the street finished about 11.30pm but after these 2 nights - we were tired! So when Putu told us the next morning that they had to refill the water tanks on the top floors (where we were) and it would be noisy we asked that it be stopped by 9pm. When we came home from dinner a little after 9pm we asked could it be stopped and they promised us it would be within an hour. Unfortunately at midnight the sound of loud waterfalls was still going, I had to wake Putu's father to stop it and he clearly wasnt happy - but either was I. The following morning we checked out.
I think we were unlucky in that the ceremony and the water re-filling wouldnt be regular events (the bars across the street are), but they should have stopped the water situation (it had been going all day).
In terms of the rooms - they were old and basic but very large and clean. They were supposed to have hotwater but it didnt tend to last more than 1-2 mins.
Brekkie was a basic offering (jaffle/pancake) but good to be included.
Its a shame to have to give a basic review especially as young Putu was a nice guy who clearly tried hard but our 3 day stay just didnt gel.

“good location, very friendly hosts, great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

rooms from 150'000 - 300000 rupias with or without aircon, private bathroom with hot water. on the top floor you have a great view over Padang Bai, the harbour and beach. the cheaper rooms are small and dark but those on the top floor are very spacious and clean. next to the guest house there are some restaurants and shops, internet coffee, 2 minute walk to the harbour and beach, 10min walk to the blue lagoon and the other beautiful beach on the other side of the bay. we stayed here 3 nights and loved it !! very friendly and familiar hosts, felst like home. every second night a live band plays in a bar next to the guest house.

Room Tip: take one on the top floor - so cosy and great view

“Cheaper Guest House Accomodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

200 meters from beach, up past Aloha and other cafe's which can be noisy if bands are playing. Woken early with cock fighting roosters crowing which is a great alarm clock if your want to go fishing or catch a ferry to Lombok.
Clean and basic rooms, between 100 and 200k. 2nd and 3rd floors have views from balcony

“clean and simple but loud”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

the music from the 2 bars across the street is pretty loud and sometimes goes until midnight. it didn't bother me too much. i was more annoyed by the reoccurring train song, soul sister. on the upper floors you get a view of the rooftops and green hills in the distance. room and bathroom were spacious and in good working order. seating just outside on the balcony. i enjoyed their egg and toast with balinese coffee (included). stayed a week. great value.

“Little fishing village with a hidden gem beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2009

We stayed at the Serangan Inn II for a few days in January. We haggled the price of about 100,000 Rupiahs directly with the hotel owner who sits out from looking for new guests to pull into the hotel. About 8 UK pounds. We got a standard room with a fan and the price included breakfast. The breakfast was quite good. They brought you tea / coffee and a banana pancake or some eggs with toast. They also gave you a towel in the price and toilet paper which is rare in this part of Bali apparently! The place was quite modern and clean, although we usually wore our crocs in the bathroom, and we used our mosquito net religiously as there were big rents in the bathroom and some of the mesh had come away on the windows and there were plenty of mozzies around. overall, a good value hotel. There were more expensive air-con rooms if you wanted one.

  • Liked — Seating area outside the room where we ate breakfast
  • Disliked — dirty bathroom floor
