“Unique, Quirky and Very Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My wife and I decided to stay at the Old Court while we were town hopping on a long weekend away from London. We selected the Old Court as it seemed to be a unique and quirky B&B and weren't disappointed. We had a gift voucher from a friend, but the Barristers Room was unavailable, so we upgraded our room to the Judges Suite which was quite large, very spacious and the bed was quite comfortable. As the Old Court is along the main road, I was a bit concerned about the noise. However, we didn’t notice any traffic noises. Possibly it was that the room had a small lounge and the en suite was along that side, which provided separation from the main road. The only noise noted being in the morning when preparations for breakfast were undertaken, but nothing significant to cause any disturbance during our stay. The decor was suited for the setting of the Old Court and as the night before we stayed at a contemporary artistic boutique hotel it provided a different experience on the trip. It's apparent that Nancy is quite a fan of pets; besides the dogs and cat, you’ll note a lot of the decor based on a feline theme.

Nancy was extremely friendly, helping prior to our arrival with suggestions on dining and arranging our reservation, as well as making us feel welcome during our stay. Our dinner was at the Old Station Inn, as we opted for something casual and fun. The food was decent, nothing profound, but we enjoyed ourselves very much. The place was quite fun and the staff was extremely friendly, as were the patrons we chatted with.

In the morning my wife had the blueberry pancakes and I had the full English breakfast. While I wouldn’t say it was phenomenal, it was good. But I’d say the blueberry pancakes were the better option. These were quite tasty. Upon leaving Nancy was, as typical, very friendly and we chatted for a bit before heading out for the next place.

It’s definitely a good place to drop in for a stay if you’re looking for a comfortable, quirky place in the bath area. Just do a little research, look at the photos and read the reviews and you should have an idea of what to expect and not be surprised by some of the things that may have disappointed others.

“A Little disappointing and way over priced”

We stayed here for just the one night, the check in time is a bit on the late side (16.30) The location seems to be in the middle of nowhere.
When we arrived Nancy made us a pot of tea and showed us to our room we stayed in the Barristers Quarters. The room was nice and warm however the the room faces the main road and it was really noisy with all the traffic coming and going. The bed was a bit on the small size however it was a four poster bed so that might well be the case. There was cobwebs at the top of the bed, err, and heavy scratch makes on our room door, we did put 2 and 2 together when we heard Nancy's a dog barking, the bath room was spotlessly clean.
Nancy recommended The Warwick Arms restaurant to us and she did put herself out by making the reservation for us. We both ordered the steak I had got half way through mine when I was suddenly faced with fat and gristle, I did complain to the manger and he then took it upon himself to give me fifty percent discount off my meal, disappointment was an under statement.
The breakfast was OK nothing special and we did enjoy chatting to the other guess, who informed us that again Nancy had recommend the same Restaurant and he to had to complain about he's meat pie.
In short this B@B is really not worth the money.

As a family home "not hotel" we are well within normal checkin time for b&bs and it seems to suit most of our travellers who have spent the day in Bath and then ventured out to us for dinner nearby and the evening. We do say in our confirmation however that we are flexible and if 4:30 - 6:30 doesn't suit you, just let us know!! Their bed too small -- it is a KINGSIZE BED & such fun. Scratch marks - the door goes back to 1857 and the mere suggestion that my beautiful Pyrenean is up there trying to get out is ludicrous....doesn't bear comment actually. Bathroom spotless....THX! Steakhouse where they received a 50% discount for a little grisle (how embarrassing!)....something we have all experienced and they were still unhappy??? Pathedtic sorry! Sounds like they expect something for nothing to me. People rave about this place & they work so hard to please! That makes me sad. Breakfast ok....now that does upset me...would seem (unlike most of our reviews) nothing would please these people! Fresh fruit cup, full English? BLueberry pancakes? etc. And by the way, these people were here on a gift voucher and only paid 35 pounds for the pleasure. Expensive....I think not. We just don't get complaints about this interesting 4 poster bedroom!

“Amazing and unique stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The Old Court is a unique and interesting place and I would recommend a visit! It's like staying at someone's home thanks to Nancy's welcoming and accommodating nature (I'm lactose intolerant) and the presence of her lovely cats and dogs. We stayed in one of the cells, which was very cosy and warm despite it being one of the coldest days of the year. The beds are lovely and soft (we wanted to steal the bedsheets to take them home!) and the building itself is full of charm. It's a great base to explore the surrounding area of Bath, Bristol, and parts of Somerset. Will be hoping to go back for another visit soon!

“Amazing find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We stayed at The Old Court for one night due to attending a wedding in the area. We both found Nancy to be one of the friendliest hosts we have ever encountered, she was very obliging and would go to any length to ensure our stay was comfortable. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable and the decor is to die for! We had the comfiest bed I think I have ever slept in, and the jacuzzi bath was a lovely extra.
The breakfast was fabulous, a full english with the option of having fruit, yoghurt, and cereal also, my only regret is not trying the american breakfast! If ever in the area again, we wouldn't stay anywhere other than The Old Court, it was worth every penny!

“An incredible building and the warmest welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at The Old Court early in the new year, staying in the Barrister's Quarters. The building itself is fantastic and the rooms are well-equipped and very comfortable and Nancy is an excellent host, affording a welcome that makes you feel like a friend rather than a paying guest. It is close enough to Bath to make it ideal if you plan to spend your days visiting the city, with the park & ride in relatively close proximity. We had such a great time that we definitely plan on returning to visit The Old Court, Nancy, (& her adorable furry friends, all whom we both grew very fond of indeed).
