I booked to stay at Coltsfoot for my boyfriends birthday on the 18th November and we had a lovely stay however there were a few pointers.
ARRIVAL - be careful with your sat nav's as when we arrived our's kept saying that it was on the left and it was on the right so needless to say we drove straight past it. Maybe more signage for the hotel would help to as I only recognised it as I had looked up images before I went. However big garish signage on hotels could look tacky.
I loved the big electronic gates that open up for you when you pull into the driveway - definitely sets the theme for luxury. Huge amounts of parking available so perfect for a big family occasion such as a wedding. Check in was very efficient and the receptionist was lovely and welcoming. However one thing I will say is that over the phone I booked room 7 which is their penthouse room with air jacuzzi bath. As it was a special occasion I wanted a lovely room so was a little surprised when I saw the receptionist write over the room number next to my name after looking at the screen to say that we were staying in room 4. I mentioned this to her and said I had booked room 7 and she said I thought you had but for some reason I had been moved. She said room 7 was available if we wanted it and I of course did so all was fine.
ROOM - As said above we stayed in room 7 which was their penthouse room. I had seen some other rooms on their website on here and thought they looked cosier but I really wanted the air jacuzzi bath which didn't disappoint. Please note this room had stairs up to the room as soon as you went through the door so maybe not a good choice if you find stairs a difficulty. There weren't many but worth noting all the same. As said the room was huge and very spacious so perfect if you also have young children with you as ample room for a cot. The room had a sofa, coffee table, large tv, hair dryer, dressing table, large double bed and tea & coffe making facilities with biscuits. There was also still and sparkling water in the room. The bathroom was gorgeous and again very spacious. The shower was huge with three jets and the air jacuzzi bath made the room for us. Lovely to relax in before dinner. There were also lovely mini Molton Brown toiletries in the bathroom.
The only slightly picky things I would say about this room was as the hotel had tried to move our rooms (despite my printed confirmation saying room 7) the room was clearly made up for one person. There was only bath robe and one towel despite two of us being in the room. We noticed the bathrobe first and my boyfriend called reception and she came over very quickly to give us an additional one. Unfortunately we hadn't noticed the towel at this stage and we didn't want to call her out again so we just shared it as we were only staying the night. I'm sure she would have brought us another one but we didn't want to call her out again. We also tried to get Wifi for my iPad however when we went to load the iPad it said no wifi available even though the room clearly stated it had wifi connection. My bf also mentioned this to the receptionist when she delivered the robe but when he went to the bottom of the stairs to show her the wifi worked however when he came back upstairs there was no connection again. Unfortunately we learned the Wifi ony worked at the bottom of the stairs or in the bathroom so not ideal especially if you are staying here for business and need Wifi. The room was advertised as having freeview but we only managed to get 4 main channels and not even channel 5! My bf is very good with technology so it wasn't as if the tv was difficult to figure out but we simply think it ony had 4 channels - slightly limiting. The tv was also angled at a very strange position as it didn't face the sofa or bed. You can move it to face the sofa however if you are like us and like watching tv in bed you simply can't. We had to move our pillows to the opposite end of the bed so we could watch tv in bed and even then the person infront had to lay flat so the person behind could see. Not ideal.
DINNER - dinner was absolutely gorgeous. My bf and I went for pre dinner drinks in the bar which was lovely but very small. There was only seating for 2 rooms of people - there were two sofas opposite each other and then some chairs tucked around the corner. We like a bit of privacy but the small bar meant you either sat with other people or stood at the bar. Needless to say I sat on a bar stool while my bf stood so not ideal. A waitress came over to us and took our order and then took us to our table when our food was ready. The food was beautiful and tasted amazing but did come out very quickly so there isn't much of a break in between courses. This could be due to the fact that there was a large Christmas party that arrived so they may have wanted to get our food out to save us from waiting. We didn't have room for dessert but they looked amazing. If you do order the steak as your main I think there is a £5 supplement you pay if your on dinner, bed & breakfast which we were. The restaurant was packed with both guests and non guests so a very good sign.
BREAKFAST - when we went for breakfast the next morning there was no waitress to greet us so we didn't know where to sit so we simply just sat where we had eaten dinner the previous night. My bf and I were still very full from the previous evenings meal but breakfast is my favourite meal of the day butt I was a little disappointed. I was really hoping for some croissants etc but under there continental breakfast it said bread, cheese and ham. They did have full English breakfast, Eggs Benedict etc available but nothing really if you fancied something light so we actually skipped breakfast. This really was because we were full from the previous evening and nothing to do with the breakfast which I'm sure would have been lovely.
CHECK-OUT - the same lady who checked us in checked us out and she was lovely. I did notice whilst we were checking out lots of thank you cards from previous guests who had weddings there so if you are thinking of this venue it obviously comes highly recommended. Check out was very quick and efficient.
Overall we would love to go back to Coltsfoot and I would definitely recommend this venue to family and friends.
